THOUGHTS....?

All I know about is Y102 and I think it is a very well-programmed station for the market on an absolute monster signal. If it is not the strongest signal in the state then it is in the top 2 or 3. I can regularly listen in Anniston, even being on the other side of Cheaha it comes in well. A lot of people don't like the Cumulus approach to CHR but I say it is extremely smart and effectively dayparted. Steve Smith is a great guy as well with a consistent delivery.

Also the station has a great sound for CHR with really good processing. I am a processing junkie so I had to mention that. ;D

I agree about the signal that Y102 has. I used to travel all over the state, and I'd be able to pick it up for most of my drive.

In terms of dj's, I agree with john that it's great having Skipper back. I usually listen to Q 96 in the afternoon for him. Otherwise, I don't listen to the station.

I listen to y102 for their Retro lunch, and sometimes when I'm tired of my Ipod. I usually work in Mix 103, but right now I'm burned out on Christmas music, so I've been avoiding them the last month.

I don't enjoy much country, so I don't tend to listen to those formats. Same with the River station.

Honestly, at work, I stream Jack 93.1 from Los Angeles. I love the song mix. We had something similar with Alice, but c'est la vie, huh?

I have to disagree with Y 102 - I wouldn't even put it in the top 5, although it is a big big signal. I think 105.7 now has the biggest coverage area in the state that I know of, simply due to a tall tower and mostly flat terrain. Any of the big Mobile-Pensacola stations in Baldwin County probably rank highly too.

None of them will ever top the Birmingham 102.5 back when it was on the Tuscaloosa tall tower; just 77kW but I heard that station from Greenville to Tupelo to Centre and even once on the eastern side of Atlanta on I-285 before a move-in took that spot.

(coverage junkie?) ;)

Zach, you're right on the spot concerning the Mobile stations. Just a few years back, before some station moves and new sign-ons, 93 BLX had ratings in Panama City (about 125 miles from the tower). Plus, you've got the Mobile stations putting good signals into 4 Arbitron rated markets, with WBLX and WABB making a good show in all of them.

Troy's Hot 105.7 could be picked up in Pensacola and Fort Walton before WCSN signed on in Gulf Shores. It still reaches parts of I-10 south of the Dothan area.

Did anyone catch the salute to WHHY-AM on Sirius/XM's 60's on 6 last Friday? I'm not from Montgomery, but it's always good hearing the shoutouts to Alabama...and I'm still waiting for a salute to WVOK on 60's on 6.

Aww, hate I missed that.

They do replay these salutes from time to time but I have never seen a published schedule. WSGN has been on several times. And I too would love to hear them do WVOK!
