Monthly EAS test rolls out again, not effectively

Hi everyone! I would like to know how this morning's test performed in your place. In my case, KHAT and it's translator ran the test just fine, and so did KARS-FM, however no one else did. Overall, I thought the sound quality was up significantly, but it feels like not as many tried so hard.

On another note, would it be a good idea to start a thread that has to do with stations that has the exact same network programming in the same market (i.e. there is three very listenable Air1 stations in Cheyenne), and how that frequency could be better spent (I would love a community jukebox radio on, per-say, 104.1)?

I would guarentee KLMI 106.1 Laramie ran the EAS test just fine, they always have.

And a thread like that would devolve in a hodge podge of horrible ideas and opinions with no basis in reality.

Sure, there are plenty of threads about things like fictional TV lineups and discussion threads with people giving their opinions about what formats are missing or would work best in certain markets, how they'd program the HD channels if they were running a station, etc. You might do a search and find if there are older threads that already cover that topic and you can add your thoughts. If you post something like this under Wyoming radio, however, I'm not sure how much response you'll get, as the threads under the Wyoming State header, seem pretty sleepy.

Oh, and im pretty sure each state, in conjunction with the state broadcast association and the states eas coordinator.. run their eas tests at different times/days.. so you wont find an RMT at the same date/time in every state

Monthly worked fine here. Just because it didn't work in your area, doesn't mean it's a nationwide problem. Are you confusing the National test? Because that already happened.

hes assuming RMT's happen the same time/day everywhere, like the national test

Glad to hear. Also, how often does "national" tests occur?

I know they differ somewhat, but it's not like in the same week?

they could be but theyre not coordinated and have nothing to do with each other

Not necessarily. It's whenever the local State EAS Coordination group for your area puts it in the calendar.
Okay thank you for the clarification

Perhaps it is time to post the definition of "test" in this context. (There is a severe understanding demonstrated here.)

1. A procedure intended to establish the quality, performance, or reliability of something, especially before it is taken into widespread use.

2. take measures to check the quality, performance, or reliability of (something), especially before putting it into widespread use or practice. "this range has not been tested on animals"or "no sparking was visible during the tests"

The purpose of a test is to find errors and/or to prove that errors do not / no longer exist.

A classic "old radio" test was the monthly frequency check by an independent "lab" which verified that a station's frequency monitor was reading correctly and that the station was license-compliant. You hoped that all was well, but had to be prepared to institute corrective action if it was not.

As a sidebar to this subject, I'll mention that most of use have rather regular occasions where we "loose" a cellphone conversation. Despite more than three decades of widespread mobile phone usage and constant new technologies and $1 kilobuck iPhones, the system still does not work 100% of the time.

The EAS system is a long way from being FUBAR.

Congress passed an act (the IPAWS modernization act of 2015) requiring tests at least every 3rd year. We had one in August, so there would not be another one required until 2024. However, they can be as frequent as the FCC/FEMA feels is needed, provided that 60 days advance notice is provided of the test date.
