Montreal Rock station

Will Montreal ever bring back an active or modern rock station in the city. So far CHOM 97.7 only plays classic rock instead of current rock. 99.9 THE BUZZ cannot be heard in the north or western part of the Island.

For a city of its size, Montreal must be a rather fractured market...they can't even support an Anglo all-news format.

According to the 2006 census the English population of Metro Montreal is 448,325 (or 12.5% of the population). The French population is 2,356,980 (65.7%) and "others" account for 783,210 (21.8%).

Population wise the English market in Montreal could possibly be compared to Kitchener or London which are both in the 470,000 range and have a fairly low reprensentation of French and "others". Neither of those markets are able to support a fulltime All News facility.

how about a French Rock station like Radio x?

Are you refering to CFTX in Ottawa? They are operated by Radio Nord, who run Plante Jazz and other assets in Montreal. My understanding was that CFTX used to be a CHR format...? So maybe there's hope that Radio Nord could do a flip to X out there in Montreal.

Just for fun, e-dawg, driving south-west out of Ottawa yesterday, I tuned into 99.9 and here's what I got...all mashed together.

-The Buzz, Burlington VT ("Burlington, Plattsburg and Montreal...")

-UCB (UCB is a Belleville ON based Christion station, which has a repeater on 99.9, near Brockville ON)

-i100 (Classic Rock) Ithaca NY

- Could not ID...however, I suspect it was Virgin 999 Toronto

Are you getting co-channel, or perhaps i100 ploughing over your signal from 'The Buzz' in the west of the Island?
