Montreal's Mike FM

Hello, everyone. My name's Mark, I'm from Montreal, and I'm new to the boards. I am a longtime radio enthusiast, and a veteran of 3 stations already (CIXS, CJFM, and CKUT, in that order). We have a wonderful market in this city with no fewer than 9 or 10 stations serving the Greater Montreal Area. The stations here cater to a diverse audience, as we have about 3 or 4 stations here that feature muticultural music. One of them is 105.1 CKDG-FM, a radio station with multiple-personality disorder.

As you may or may not know, CKDG, located in a small building on Park Avenue in Montreal, was originally designed to serve the city's Greek community with Greek music and programming. However, during the AM and PM drive periods , Monday to Friday only, it becomes something called Mike FM. Mike FM, which is more like a 2-part radio show than an actual station, plays a lot of variety hits music, including a whole bunch of obscure 80s that I have never heard of before. Their slogan is "We play what you want", which makes them seem kind of like the reverse of Jack FM. Coincendentally, their logo resembles that of Jack. It features the same color scheme, font, and everything. This is strange because they're not even owned by the company that owns Jack FM. According to the Wikipedia article on CKDG, the station "is forbidden to use English or French for more than 35% of its broadcast schedule." Therefore, they invented the Mike format in order to fill this gap.

I find it very strange that they're doing this. A better idea would probably be to either make the full switch to the Mike FM format, or just go back to being Greek FM. It's very difficult for 2 types of very different formats to exist on the same station, and it often makes for a ton of confusion. An even better idea would be to switch to Jack FM, since Mike FM is basically a copy of their format. I know that the Jack guy, Jack Garrett, is an occasional poster here, and perhaps he's heard of Mike FM, and the fact that their logo and format closely resemble his. Hey Jack, if you're reading this, have you ever heard of Montreal's Mike FM before? If not, then I think you should take a look at their website, www.mikefm.ca. They're trying to be like Jack FM, but they've literally got it all backwards. If they were to get "Jacked", it might help them in the ratings department, as from what I've been hearing, their ratings are pretty low. Have any of the rest of you out there in Radio-Info land ever heard of Mike FM? If you have, what do you think should be done about it? Feel free to post your thoughts and insights here.
