I'm putting a moratorium on the "AAR Scandal" posts...not "AAR", or "progressive Talk"....<U>just the "scandal"</u> (using the word loosly).

No more posts about it until I lift the moratorium.

I could care less what news agencies are covering the topic today. Too little too late as far as I'm concerned. It's been exausted here. I'll say it again, you are like my kids when they were 5...

"but such and such is doing it, why can't we..."

And to quell a 5 year old's impatience....I didn't say it could NEVER be talked about again. We're just taking a break. There is nothing NEW to the story. The news agencies aren't adding anything new....YET. Once they do, we'll see about discussing it again. If you see something new...feel free to email me about it FIRST, and wait for my reply.

That's not my job...and are we talking NEW DEVELOPMENTS or just more new people talking about it. Besides, maybe they are talking about it because of all the talk here.

I did a Google News search. There are 52 total stories on this. Most of them are the same AP story reprinted in various online papers across the country. It confirms the details we knew at least a week ago.

The only new things on this are additional editorials, almost all from conservative columnists or editorial pages, with things like "Liberal Talk Radio Has the Values of Enron." Nuff said about the news value of that.

In short, there have been no new developments on the story, particularly as it relates to the radio business/AAR. IMHO, this thread becomes relevant again if/when the following happens:

1) AAR itself is publicly acknowledged as part of an investigation.
2) AAR employees get subpoenas/arrested.
3) The results of the investigation are released to the public.
 
It is illustrative of how the news biz works.

The Times does a story.
The AP picks up the story.
Papers around the country publish it. The TV network newscasts and cable news channels also take their cues from the Times and get their news from the AP.

It is interesting that the AP would pick up a story from the Times and not the Post. Some might call it bias. A question of credibility might be more likely.

It's also interesting how the AP decides what's news for newspapers plus TV and radio around the country. Even the major networks can not be considered news gathering organizations and they follow AP stories rather than break stories themselves. The AP is a near monopoly. For the most part, they say what's news.

That's not always true, since the networks do have correspondents at the White House, the Pentagon, the State Dept., in Baghdad, etc. and do some independent reporting. But the networks have far fewer correspondents and stringers than the AP has, so for the most part they have to rely on the AP and, to a lesser extent, Reuters.
