I think I now may have a <poor> explanation for all of the trouble at KFMB.

Tonight I realized that they have seemingly dropped their affiliation with CBS Radio...and they are now all ABC Network News! Yesterday I noticed that they are now using ABC News sounders on their local newscasts.

Even how they are handling Rick Roberts in the morning has been turned around and changed. The website for the station is now centered around Rick Roberts and a VERY populist approach in their programming. It is almost as though they are trying to get as focused as possible and majorly outdo KOGO in how the station is perceived and identified.

I think KFMB mornings have been in a state of flux since they dropped Joe Bauer. I've listened to Rick, and Ted before him, and they aren't exactly nice voices to wake up to. Rick is like gravel on a tin roof and Ted always sounded like he had some speed with his coffee in the morning. Rick is better later in the day, but I don't think he has much talk competition in the morning. If I had to listen to talk in the morning, I'd almost rather listen to the circus at KLSD than listen to Rick.

Rick has changed his radio style since leaving KOGO.. He always ran a "what's happenin' in the community" show. now he's focused solely on National events. But KFMB has strong Arbi's. The weakest link is Oreilly due to his lousy attendance record
______________

Branding | Rick

The station has new branding, logos and the same programming. In OKC, Rick's slot has been trimmed to 7 to 9 Central, or 5 to 7 Pacific.

Rick filled in for the Savage one across the Savage Network last week.
______________

Re: Branding | Rick

The New logo is more heritage in its look. The station used to be "76, KFMB, Keeping in touch." In the 90's they added the 0 and made it 760. Somwhere in the last few years, it was just "760 KFMB" Not a very good logo in my opinion. The new one looks much better.

And, not sure if I said this before, but I wonder if Channel 8 will soon be ABC as well (even though the radio netwrok is no longer co-owned)? I bet 10 would love to be part of the new Katie Couric era, and would't 8 love to have that ABC globe in their logo?

Uh oh, I hear a "Stay Tuned..." comming on!

G-Dawg, are you insane? Be tuned: It's the price they (AM) has to pay, in part, for Paul (tooth whistle) Harvey. After KOGO dropped ABC Radio, the network wanted a Sandy Eggo station.

CBS "has" KyXy and 103.7, Flea FM. There's 44 stations in the market and no CBS radio network station with news. KNX sort, kinda ... counts.

And that's the rest of the story.
______________

Haha, of course I.... am...

But seriously, one never knows... I doubt that Kufmub wanted ABC just for Paul Harvey, he doesn't seem to do well on new stations, sorta a brand reco type thing, and he can be really hard to sell on a new station (trust me, I saw it first hand).

On the other hand, what are you implying about there not being a CBS News outlet in San Diego, hm?

Paul (Whistle) Harvey .....

> Haha, of course I.... am...

See, what the west Texas prarie wind does to you?? You should come back to the sunshine, Alberto's tacos, and the world's finest bankrupt city.

ABC Radio wanted a station (any) to carry Paul (whistle) Harvey. The price of admission: network after KO-GO dropped ABC for 'al Kidda' (That's 'Fox' in Arabic) network. KFMB, steering right on the left coast, knows that Paul (whistle) Harvey has a conservative crowd -- and his voice over commercials are like a story.

OK Tumbleweed! No CBS News radio outlet except for (traffic on the tens) KNX 1070 from la LA

And that, along with a good Lyle Lovett song, makes it the rest of the story.

I think the word "bankrupt" sums up what I would be if I moved back to Shamu-Land, but thanks for the offer, it's nice to know that I'm missed, LOL!

Not the two words I was expecting...

Re: Paul (Whistle) Harvey .....

Speaking of Albertos Tacos..I'm in the Bay Area..
it's hard to find anything as good as Albertos a
or Robertos in Northern California. The Mexican food
is weak, compared to San Diego.

There really isn't a "Bertos" bros, right?

No. But with a Filibertos, Albertos, Rolberto's, etc. on every corner, it just seems like it.
______________

Re: Paul (Whistle) Harvey .....

Then would you settle for "the Rich Brothers"?

As in "Bobby Rich and..."
