more 80's for dial global?

Surprise is only ONE way to describe my reaction when first hearing "All Night Long" (Lionel Richie) on Jeff Rollins' show! Other Richie hits like "Penny Lover" and "Hello" are obvious, but not ANL. I've heard it twice now, and wish it wasn't so. I;m just not sure if it belongs there. It's also unfortunate that I've loathed the song ever since it made it on the airwaves initially. It's from hearing overplayed songs like that on AC stations that have driven me to this format in the first place! Then, soon after Lionel, they played George Benson's "Lady Love Me".

Oh well, as previously noted in another post........ "times are a-changin'"! :-\

These songs have been around a while. They're playing less 80s than they once did. From 2001 to 2006, they sounded like Timeless Favorites. I even remember "These Dreams" by Heart.

Keep in mind these songs also aired today, just in the hour I was listening: "Wanted" by Perry Como,"Just a Closer Walk with Thee" by Pete Fountain, "Friendly Persuasion" by Pat Boone and "Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole. These are songs that definitely wouldn't make the grade if they were changing anything.

Yes, I was listening in that hour when "Nature Boy" came on. And your comment made me remember when I noticed their return to some of the old greats... having taken on a more "Timeless"-like format there for while. I'd forgotten about that. :)

Are you sure you were listening to a Dial Global feed at that point in time? Some stations stray away from the format once in awhile to play a song of their own if they're approaching a news break or something.

That happened with WINR in Binghamton NY. It's Dial Global and I did hear Jeff Rollins one morning, but I had to do a double-take when I heard "In The Midnight Hour" by Wilson Pickett. I quickly switched over to another Dial Global station and heard something "normal."

If you're asking me... yes I'm positive it was a Dial station, during Dial programming. I'm also very aware of what 680 WINR does, cause I usually listen to part of their morning feed each day. They substitute the local ads for an internet-only ad, followed by an internet-only song! So indeed during the course of an hour, you'll hear stuff played that Dial would (for the most part) NEVER play.

A-ha! So that's it... I never thought about it being different for the internet. That makes sense, though. (And I can only listen on the internet because my market has no DG affiliates).

But, regardless, you'd think they would play songs more in line with the format. All they did by playing Wilson Pickett was cause me to find some other station. I can hear that stuff on our over-the-air stations.

Not so sure if it's a good thing to cut local ads on internet streams, however (unless, of course, there are contractual considerations). I've gone to stores and restaurants that I heard about on the internet in towns I happened to visit later.

I don't pretend to know much about the process, but can only assume the advertisers only pay to have their messages heard OTA. I've heard it done many different ways on other streams. During most hours, WINR's internet stream also replaces the local weather w/music or stream-only ads too. I also know that when they have a 30 minute infomercial, the stream will only play HALF of the program. They'll run internet music for 15 mins, then pick up the show half way through!!

My advice --- IF YOU WANT FULL DIAL GLOBAL -- GO TO 1280wsat.com They are in Charlotte, NC. They don't substitute any ads for internet, and they take LESS network breaks than WINR, so you'll hear those "secondary" songs that DG runs during the breaks that WINR will fill with Wilson Pickett!~!

That can happen. I heard "Fun, Fun, Fun" by The Beach Boys during a commercial break before Timeless Classics became Timeless Favorites. I complained and was told the station must have been doing the music locally. I said Bud Buschardt was the DJ at the time. I figured out what was going on when a song that was out of character finished early and they snuck in some commercials.
