It seems like you guys have been having quite a bit of victories. More and more dance music is being featured on CHR/Pops and CHR/Rhythmics across the country, HD-2s are popping up featuring dance music and everyone is quite happy about it.
But there is one BIG market that hasn't been really been embracing dance, in fact it's been less since 2004 when CHR/Pop KIIS dropped all dance(even from mxshows) in favor of a more Hip Hop approach. That market? Los Angeles. In this same period, Hip Hop and Reggaeton have grown to be big genres for Los Angeles radio. The only dance featured is on KBIG from 7p-3a Mon-Fri and 7-12 Sun with Boogie Nights, and it's mostly disco driven with a few 80s/90s and mabye one current, KPWR features a Aqua Net Set Fridays at noon with the classics and has Powertools on Sat nights/Sun Morning from 2-4 am, KROQ has Jason Bentley from 12-3 Sat Mights/Sun Morning. Non Com KCRW has Metropolis(I don't remember the times for that) but other then those listings, LA is Danceless. Well, unless you consider the faster Regional Mexican stuff to be "dance music" and there's plently of that since we do have 3 regional mexican stations. But I am sure that you all are thinking of more "pure dance music" stuff. And there is more bad news. None of the new HD-2s announced by CC, Emmis, and CBS for Los Angeles contain any current dance. KBIG-2 will be disco, KIIS-2 is a spanish version of what they are already doing, and KPWR-2 will feature Latin Hip Hop/Reggaeton as KPWR host Khool Aid has just been promoted to oversee this HD-2(she also hosts the syndicated Pocos Pero Locos show). In other words, LA dance fans aren't gaining a thing.
Mabye the next battle for dance is acceptance in the City Of Angels?<P ID="signature">______________
