More B98.5 news...a new playlist

It looks like the final piece of the B98.5 changes have taken place...a new playlist. They are going more upbeat and more toward the 90's and now.

No Snow Patrol or The Fray...but Fergie's "Big Girls Don't Cry", Avril Lavigne's "My Happy Ending", No Doubt's "Hella Good" and Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson".

I think they are trying to attract a younger audience (hince the CHR jingles and this playlist).

Adding younger music makes sense for B98.5. With Lite/Peach gone, there's nowhere for the older folks to go in the AC arena. So B98.5 is pretty much guaranteed to keep them even if the station throws some currents into the mix. Given that, it makes sense for B98.5 to try to grab whatever audience they can from Star 94.

Well, maybe this will start of the lame ass stationa to do something different. God forbid, what is the news on 107.1 moving closer to Atlanta? Yet another Country station that we do not need.

Look at the Country stations that are in the Atlanta area. Way too many for this Market, I think.

92.5- The Bear
93.5-Elijay
94.9- The Bull
101.5- Kicks
104.3- Dahlonega- easily heard in the northern suburbs
106.1-WNGC-Athens/Atlanta
106.7-WYAY
107.1-WTSH ROME--But, i can even get it clearly in Virginia Highland.

Which if any of these do you might eventually change formats????

Enough with the Country already.

Plus, Cox has a station slightly down the dial they need to protect (97.1 The River).

Nationally, AC is going towards this route, with the music mix leaning towards the 90's and now, as well as upbeat. B98.5 was upbeat for years before most mainstream ACs were. Since Cox does research, this is where it would naturally lead them.

Enough with this post already, BRENT. We get it. You don't like country. You've said so rather frequently. And I wouldn't hold my breath for any of the above stations to change formats any time soon.

Well I am going to have to agree. Atlanta radio as a whole is a vast wasteland of S***. This town needs a enema, as far as radio goes. But you must remember this is the south, and country is just part of the region's taste in music. I would venture to guess though as far as format changes? Naaaaaa, Aint gonna happen. Too many people would explode if they couldnt hear no talent's , who look good physically, SANG about Mama, Dogs, Cheatin on each other, and the like.. Its the south, thats why Im ready and looking to eventually move to a different area, that takes chances like standards, or oldies.

Atlanta only has 3 Country Stations... as the others listed are stations that can be heard in the Atlanta area. So why count them? If we started counting stations that we can hear in Atlanta, we'd have too many urban stations, too many hispanic stations and so on. I understand you hate country, but don't hold your breath on any of the outside country stations to flip anytime soon.

Of those exurban stations, I can't see anything that would cause any of them to change formats any time soon.
To varying degrees, they're all at worst reasonably profitable AFAIK and at least one of them has had a license to print money for what seems like forever (or at least since I was a lot younger than I am now).

It is getting extremely repetitive now. I think they might have 75 songs in rotation. Really pitifull.

I thought it had promise, but another disapointment. Way too much Clarkson amd Daughtry......... :p :p :p
