MORE CC CUTS

On Fri 2/20, Clear Channel was to have another round of layoffs. Has anyone heard if any air staff was let go this time?

No they held off in order to get all of the cuts ready to roll out across the chain at the same time. I am hearing that its more support staff and the traffic department in the line of fire this time.

Does anyone think the new president is aware of the "experiment" of deregulating our industry and completely destroying it? I know he is very into re-regulating other industry(which obviously needs to be done), but is radio so far down on the list that it will probably take years for anything good to happen. Remember the days, when, if there was a terrorist attack, someone qualified would have to be on the air...at every station? Now, from 7:00PM til 6:00AM, its one teenager running three stations, and the whole time he's there, he's in the back doing production.

In the back doing production? ::) surely you jest!Try sitting inthe back room, slamming Mountain Dew and Doritos while texting friends!

From what I am lead to believe from a couple of sources the Obama administration is aware of the troubles of radio and will address them in time. Right now the economy is job #1 and the source doesn't expect the FCC to take action until 2010. Local content regulations are almost certain as are changes in ownership caps (maybe even back to the pre-1994 levels of 7 and 7). What is not on the table and never has is the Fairness Doctrine. President Obama doesn't think its Constitutional and thinks that the local content regulations would better serve the public and the industry.

If what you say is true, thats great. Big business has proved they can't be trusted. They were handed the keys and chose to drive drunk at 300MPH and have crashed horribly, not just in our industry, but almost all. Maybe the biggest failed model ever, and too bad, it happened to us.

Don't be so down on PA. Pittsburgh economically is actually one of the most stable markets in the country right now. I work in another industry and our big-ticket items had massive sales increases here in 2008. Trust me, you're better off here than in a lot of sunnier locations right now.
