More CC Layoffs

Production Hubs? Are you serious? Wow, leave it to CC to find out another way to get rid of productive people, while upper management gets raises. Any news if it affects LA or NY? So far, ive only heard of Atlanta and Columbus. Welcome to the Beach my friends...grab a drink.

This is not surprising, not at all, the company is owned by a Capital Management company that is only the owner of the company until they get it to a position where they can sell it or parts of it piece by piece and make a HUGE profit from it.
They're trying to streamline and making all their stations sound exactly alike just like how all CC web pages use the same template and look exactly the same save for the content on the page.
I'm sure the more business oriented readers of this board will applaud something like this because "it makes business sense" and while it will save them money and streamline operations it makes the product sound generic.
They're banking on listeners not noticing the difference especially if they don't listen to stations in other markets be it online or on their drive and noticing that the voice they just heard they hear on other stations and to some extent that may be true but from a radio entertainment and listening enjoyability point of view I just think it does the station, programming and listeners a great disservice.

GenX, you're dead on. The capital partners are focusing on maximizing their operating costs so that they can sell off the company, in whole or part, and realize a big net gain. They are not in this for the yearly revenues that radio ownership generates - they want to make a big windfall profit.

Thanks Doc and don't get me wrong, I know they're a Capital company not a radio company and they bought CC as an asset to make money on and won't begrudge them that.
I just hope they don't take forever to sell because the longer they hold the company and cut and slash it means less jobs for those of us in the business, jobs that in most cases don't come back or are difficult to bring back.

It'd also be great to see some new ownership groups sprout up too, smaller groups with less than say 10-15 stations or at the most 25, get some real local ownership back and get some new viewpoints and voices out there to be heard instead of one message being pumped out all over the country.

Boy, do I agree with you. Although I make my living with some of these big radio companies, I think the only way the radio landscape will change for the better is when the giants finally start spinning off stations. Local talent and local programming trump corporate "efficiency" every time.

CC ain't exactly the brightest company. Look at their mistakes Hot 92.3 after 2005 when it phased out it's current R&B in favor of the 70's and 80's and KIIS-FM's switch to Mainstream Pop. The Good station that CC owns are Power 105 in NYC Power 99 in Philly, KGGI in Riverside that's it. Other than their LA station are garbage. The only good station in LA that CC owned was KKBT 92.3 The Beat in the 90's.

And they focused on Hispanics, a growing market segment, while the Black population is actually declining. That may not have given you personally a station you like to listen to, but it was a smart move.

and KIIS-FM's switch to Mainstream Pop.

CHR has moved towards pop and dance, and KIIS moved with the audience. That's why it's the market, and maybe the world's, highest billing station.

The only good station in LA that CC owned was KKBT 92.3 The Beat in the 90's.

The Beat was only "owned" by Clear for the briefest of moments. When they bought AMFM they went over cap in LA, so they moved "The Beat" to 100.3 and sold it in a multi-market deal to Radio One.

In the Early 2000's during the first two years under radio one KKBT was playing some good R&B such as Nothing In This World By KeKe Wyatt & Avant, Jaheim's Could it Be, Just In Case and Anything, Case Missing You, Wifey by Next, Someone To Love You by Ruff Endz, You Know That I Love You by Donell Jones.

Yo BJordan, not trying to be a jerk here, but this thread has NOTHING TO DO WITH MUSIC! It's about Layoffs at Clear Channel in their production departments. Lets stay on point here people! LOL! Cracks me up, hijacking another thread for you musings! But really man, don't we have enough threads going that deal with your love for old Power 106, The Beat, KJLH etc...?

I hate to hear about this but I think CC is going to end up looking good
after the Citadel/Cumulus deal goes thru. There will be beaches all over
this Country and the jobs wont be coming back.

Yeah sorry bro Im african american too but the whole KKBT KJLH KPWR topic is getting old. That has nothing to do with this topic. Like I said when you go to college take a journalism class as a elective and try to get a internship somewhere in town if your college provides it so you will get the know the businness a little bit more. And like David said your in heavily populated market that is domianted by hispanics. They make up the demo. There is no law that requires a urban formatted station in everytown. Not trying to be mean but let it go.

Before I became a member of Radio-info this board was boring. Nobody was adressing the issues of KJLH and KPWR it's like no one cared.

This borad has been up for many years and we already address KPWR and KJLH issues a long time ago. Power went back to Rythnmic in 2005 and KJLH music changed right around that time. Just keep those post on those topic threads not this one. This is about Clear Channel layoffs not programming or music tweaks.

wdb2003 is absolutely right. These topics were covered extensively when changes were made at those stations. I suppose if you wanted to you could still go back far enough to read them, but many topics and threads have been posted since then, and when more changes happen I'm sure you'll see threads about them. Nobody disputes your wanting to discuss your favorite stations and music, but you do need to stay on topic and in this case it's about the CC layoffs, which I'm sure will keep happening until the company is lean enough to sell off. BJordan, you've gotten some good advice from wdb2003. If you want to pursue a career in the business and in the format that you love, you may need to move to a city with a population that demands that format, but get the education first so that you can go as far as possible up the ladder.

Yo Cal guy you're so right so I'll debating weather Power 106 play R&B on that topic. There is nothing new to talk about in LA radio so I post about the days of yesterday. But I'll stay in the topic.
