Word is that MOJO (the morning show producer) for the KOOL morning show was sent packing this morning. I certainly hope this is not a foreshadowing of what is to be... Tom, John and Maria are pure magic. Their rating are fantastic ALREADY and they only have ONE book under their belts. PLEASE CBS...enough cuts...keep the KOOL KREW.
I still heart Maria Knight!

Word is...

Junkmail,

I hope your "word" is dead wrong! I sure hope you, or whoever told you, don't have a clue what they're talking about. We can't be doing this crap all over again. February is OVER. Enough already!

Joe Corrao, "Mojo", isn't just a typical producer of a typical morning show. He's very much an important part of the KOOL Morning Crew; as much as the other three. Without him, they're going to be incomplete. We, the listeners, love Mojo! And really, how can you not?

May I add, his absence from Friday's show was definitely noticeable! This is not going to be a very good move at all...

Mojo has done a fantastic job producing the show, keeping up with the Morning Show page, calls, emails, and all that... He goes above and beyond.

He's a real genuine very nice guy, whether it's by email or in person, and I had the pleasure of getting to meet him for the first time at Summer Splash. I even agreed to participate in his hula-hoop contest (or I attempted to, at least). What radio people have told me about him are absolutely true.

I still remember John Michaels in the afternoon introducing him to Camelback Jack and the listeners as if it were a few months ago.

This couldn't happen to a better person, and I wish him all the best...

Hey CBS Radio, do you wish you hadn't given a million bucks away to most likely prize-pigs, earlier this year?? Play us out, Mojo...!!

Lauren

I worked with Joe when he was a traffic reporter at another company. He really is a nice guy, so I know he couldn't have gotten axed due to anything other than more CBS budget slashes. WHO will run the board?
Tom, John, Maria???

I notice on the website that Camelback is solo in a new picture. Please don't tell me Dena Foxx was a victim of these latest cuts.

Well from what I get out of this is that obviously good ratings don't necessarily mean good talent. How in the hell can you take away a major part of the show when the numbers showed very good? Does it even make sense? I think this was a bad move on CBS's part as they need to start understanding that the more shake up that happens, the more people are going to just tune out. There is absolutely nothing that I ever heard Mojo do wrong and what a better show it was with him. You can't say that the ratings that just came out were purely Tom, Maria and John alone. When you say the Kool Morning Crew it was implied that it was all four of them in my mind so I don't think they should refer to it as the Kool Morning Crew anymore. Fair is fair my friends!

Actually, to me this is the end of the line. I'm done with terrestrial radio; there is way to much corporate politics involved from some committee that thinks they have all the answers that don't even live here. Well, they failed on this one as they really should start listening to what the listeners want to hear as without us they have a much bigger problem (personally it's probably already to late anyways). I'm just one person they loose so no big deal and I understand that, but I would much rather pay to listen to Sirius XM then to invest anymore of my interests in just another boring/bland station. At least with satellite radio I can listen to the programming I want and hell even the commercials are better there and shorten than on the terrestrial radio.

Mojo helped make that station funnier to listen to. I'm 36 and enjoyed listening to some of the music they played in the morning, but what kept me listening was the talent they each brought to the mic everyday and it sure seemed like it was going very well, so I'm totally baffled and I just don't have the desire to try again. Mojo deserves much better than this and I'm 100% positive that this guy will rock on somewhere else! All the best luck to you Mojo if you read this and personally if I were you I wouldn't even consider a radio job anymore as this industry doesn't even deserve a good person like yourself to grace the hallways each day. Unless it's Sirius XM of course! ;D

Since all of Junkmail's prior posts have been exclusive to the topic of praising the KOOL morning show , I would gamble to say that Junkmail is a reliable KOOL morning show source- LOL.

KOOL listener Lauren bring up a good point. CBS was giving away a million dollars during the spring book. That could certainly explain this latest ratings boost. Doesn't seem to have worked for KMLE, though.

I think Tom, John and Maria are safe. Sadly, morning show producers are expendable.

If it's about cost cutting, maybe they're moving their night guy back to morning show producer and voice-tracking or putting in syndication for 7-mid?

I heart prime rib

I would think if it worked, it would work for both stations. The biggest mistake was putting the countdowns online rather than actually requiring listening to the station to have a chance to win. You honestly only had to hear about it from someone else, and visit the website several times a day.

The amount given away was also ridiculous. A million dollars? When you're trying to cut a budget? That million dollars could have paid the salaries of Joe Corrao and others, like those victims of Feb. 7. The idea should be to keep the good people...?

I see Mojo's page is gone from the website when you click "On Air". What a shame, and what a mistake!

NO!!
I finally get off the overnight shift so I can hear the KOOL Morning Crew on my way IN to work and they’ve gone and killed off another key person!? I left the radio industry years ago, but fortunately I’ve had the pleasure of meeting most of the people on KOOL, however, I didn’t get to meet Mojo until recently at Summer Splash. All of you who say he’s a nice guy…are absolutely RIGHT. I talked this poor guy’s ear off and he was extremely nice and joked with me like we were old friends. At one point he even jumped up on stage and offered to help the drummer set up his equipment since the guy was looking pretty rushed. But the one thing that sticks out in my mind was listening to him talk about John, Tom and Maria. He called them his FAMILY. Whenever I’d try to compliment him on something, he’d humbly pass the praise onto his co-workers. Joe is a class act. I can’t image why CBS would break up a team like this and lose an employee like him, what a loss.

As Lauren said, “Play us out Mojo.” :-[

Kid and Reuben need an AM show producer. Mojo?

Closed Circut to Joe: Stop by the airpark for a visit sometime, bro. You're always welcome.

It was more than MoJo...five people all together! MoJo, Denna, Appears that Lee Bortell has gone back to the duties of morning show producer which leaves nights open, a production guy and one other person not on air as well.

Maybe the C(BS) suits should quit radio and go back to work for the last industry they screwed up - the Big Three.

Since some of you have shared 'personal encounters' here's a little story from a LONG time ago.
Before I left Phoenix I worked with a long haired beach bum named Joe Corrao (although I thought it was Corral for about 4 months) At the time there was a certain ‘traffic reporter’ at Skyview that was having a really hard time making ends meet. So one day this ‘traffic reporter’ comes running out of his studio demanding to know WHO left him money in an envelope in his studio. None of us knew anything about it, but each day something would happen…gas money, gift cards and other stuff would ‘magically’ show up yet no one would admit to leaving it. One day I got in a little earlier then usual just in time to see Mojo walking out of this certain ‘traffic reporters’ studio. I had caught him red handed leaving an envelope for this guy, but I gave him my word that I would keep quiet. He kept this up until that certain ‘traffic reporter’ left Skyview for a better job. So, who was the ‘traffic reporter’ that Mojo kept anonymously helping out? Just a guy you may have heard of named … “John Michaels.”

Radio is one business that doesn't always make sense, especially when someone good is let go.

People like Joe will be successful in spite of C(BS)'s actions.

Good luck, Joe!

The previous morning show pages were "intact" as late as 8:30
last night. As Lauren noted, by 4:20 this morning they had been
"revised." Does (C)BS Phoenix even have a webmaster? Did they
make Lee come in real, real early today to change it?

I'm not sure who did the evening show last night. A recently-installed
part-timer is on tonight, and after hearing him a few times I'd much
prefer listening to Mr. Mellow, who did get a lot more comfortable with
the format before he mysteriously disappeared.

I heard today's morning show off and on--punching between KOOL and
KT'R (which is another thread I'll get to if someone else hasn't yet)--
from about 6:05-6:30 and heard Lee talk briefly once.

What I'd really like to know is did Tom/Maria/John explain anything?
Maybe just after 5:00? I doubt they could have said anything
regarding Mojo, but was there any mention of Lee's return?

Just like February 7, it's the corporate suits and bean counters again.
To bad we can't can the market manager and above instead.

The actual Morning Show page didn't change until the 8 o'clock hour yesterday morning, new picture and all. Deleted entries, etc. They do have their own webmaster, I believe. I think I've seen him in someone's Summer Splash pictures... Maybe he does KMLE's website as well, I'm not sure. But I bet they don't get up so early!

That's right, where DID he go?? I heard James Rivas on two evenings in a row, but I haven't been able to hear too much after 6pm. I miss Mr. Mellow!

At the very beginning of the show, Tom and John were saying there was somebody missing... and pretending to think of who it was. They mistakingly said they were missing 2/3rds of the Morning Crew (actually 2/4ths, but then corrected it as 1/3rd). Maria was late. Of course, they didn't mention Mojo... I'm sure they would have loved to, but I'm sure they'd get in trouble. PDs and/or big suits always seem to think the listener will never notice if they never mention someone again. As untrue as that is, this is definitely something I learned this year.

Sometime in the final half hour, they mentioned Lee as the "newest member of Team KOOL", and applauded. I know he produced the show for Bill. I wonder if he's going to do the 4:45 AM to 5:20 AM thing? Does this mean evenings will no longer be fun and entertaining?

Glad to share Lauren. It's too bad it had to be under these circumstances. No one can deny Joe's talented and hardworking, but in my opinion CBS just did a very 'heartless' thing to a guy who is ALL heart.

Sounds like CBS/KOOL is sticking with the Wall Street logic, the heart and soul of radio be damned. They gave away a million dollars. They hired one of the most expensive talents in the market when they had comparable talent in-house at a fraction of the price. The cost? 5 human beings who's lives have suddenly been f'd up.

A radio station is not like "Family" anymore, despite what they'd like you to convey at the hula hoop contest at Sunsplash, Joe. Radio doesn't deserve good people like you and Dena Foxx.

If they voicetrack or syndicate the 7-mid shift, it will be the final blow to the KOOL as we knew it. Welcome to the machine.

you sooooo right. radio is now ruined!!! question: do you go to mcdonalds cuz you like the server?? cc has been running w/o jocks across america and they've suffered no ratings attrition. people want the product not the server.
