"Change" coming to Gator Country 101.9

FORT MYERS: WWGR-FM and Renda Broadcasting of Southwest Florida have announced that as of 10am on Tuesday May 19th, change will be coming to WWGR-FM.

A retrospective of the radio station will begin at 10am Tuesday, May 19th followed by something that WWGR-FM staff has referred to as “more change that Southwest Florida listeners have wanted since the fall of 2008”.

WWGR-FM program director Justin Tyler states, “We’d like to thank Southwest Florida for making us their #1 choice for country since 1994. We have heard from our listeners that they need more change. We have heard their ideas, and on 10am Tuesday May 19th, we will give the listeners what they want”.

Renda Broadcasting operations manager Randy Savage states, “We know you will be pleased with more change that is coming to Southwest Florida, and we hope to make a big impact in the market Tuesday May 19th at 10am."

Hmmm...so 10am tomorrow?

Don't think its a format flip...but seems like something is definitely brewing.

Either this could give Cat Country 107.1 some light at the end of the tunnel...or it could be something that buries them.

Thoughts?

They even have a ticker on their website.

Not sure if all this hype means just a new Mid-Day show... That would be my guess.

A format flip should be the reason for all this hype.

Here's Gator Country 101.9's Twitter since April 21...

"WWGR1019
Only one more week left until we give Southwest Florida more CHANGE. It happens at 10am on Tuesday 5/19!

I betcha dollars to donuts that the big "change" announcement is that they will be giving away "change" in the form of $1,000 (or perhaps $1,019) every hour...

Either that, or they're gonna spring for a new house for Henrietta Hughes...

I'd like to, but I can't find it on their website.

Also, you know, you really shouldn't cut and paste news articles, but since there's no link to go by, I guess this is fine...

Its 9;38am EST and their ticker has already counted down to zero. Their Listen Live button says they are no longer streaming. When anyone in that area hears what actually happens at 10am let us know. I just on the edge of my seat ;D

OMG, gas for .99 cents?!

(sigh) Sad...
http://www.nbc-2.com/articles/readarticle.asp?articleid=29754&z=3

The parent company of the station said they will be running the promotion several more times over the next five or six weeks at different gas stations.

Anything to try and get ahead of the mighty "Cat Country" - oh, wait a) Gator's already ahead and b) CC probably couldn't afford to spring for free gas for listeners...

Probably the funniest episode of WKRP in Cincinnatti EVER titled "Turkeys Away"! Mr. Carlson puts together a Thanksgiving promotion involving turkeys tossed from a helicopter at a shopping mall.

Les Nesman, covering the event live: "It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ... K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenburg tragedy has there been anything like this!"

a stunned Mr. Carlsons reaction: "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

According to TV.com: This is the series' most famous episode. It is based on a true story that had become famous within the radio industry. Many residents of Atlanta remember the tragedy when radio disc jockeys at WQXI dropped live turkeys from a helicopter. Most of the turkeys landed on I-85 in Georgia and all of the turkeys died.
