More Changes Are Fixing To Occur (Alexander Broadcasting of Selma)

That's right!  Paul Finebaum is moving to WALX 100.9 FM, by popular demand.  I didn't catch the date of the move but I heard him speak of it today.

Speaking of WALX, I've been seeing an ad in the local paper and it says this: Are you listening? ALEX is coming.  In the background, it has a guitar.  I wonder if WALX is fixing to ditch their long running Hot AC/Classic Rock mix and go for something else.

I wonder what WMRK will put in Finebaum's place, once the move occurs? It looks like that this AMer may soon be ditching Oldies and then become our first and only full time Talk station.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. I can smell changes in the air.  With WALX, WMRK and WJAM making changes, WJUS 1310 AM moving to Selma, WTID possibly moving from Thomaston to Orrville and with my project possibly working out, this radio market is fixing to experience a shake up like I've never seen before.

With "Alex", it sounds as though WALX might be be changing to an adult hits format, since it's one of those "male named" stations, like Jack-FM, Bob, etc. Pretty interesting if that was the course the station was going to take, considering the calls already match. ;)

I haven't heard WMRK in years. Last I can recall listening to them was back in '84 when I was traveling through the Selma area. It was broadcasting a soft AC/AC format back then.

It does sound like a possible shake up going on in Selma. I haven't ever seen much happening over that way, with format changes. The last big format change for Selma that I can remember is when WTUN became WDXX and dropped adult contemporary for country. That was back 20 years ago..in 1989.

Now for some predictions I want to make:

WALX may soon become a clone of WNPT's Jack FM format.
WMRK may soon ditch Oldies and become a talk station
WJUS move in will retain its current Classic Soul and Gospel format and will be allowed to rebroadcast at 94.3 FM
WTID move in will pick up the Tom Joyner Show and Touch Urban format, that WJAM is fixing to leave behind and with Alexander Broadcasting leasing this station from Great South Radio.
Your Truly is fishing for a wonderful mix of Great Gospel Music and Educational programming from Redeemer Radio from Olivebridge New York.

I heard WMRK in October 2008, while still on the campaign trail. They were having technical problems, because they had a talk show and Oldies playing at the same time, seemed like they were playing a classic by Elton John, but I can't recall what the song was.

I'm about ready for shakeups here in Cullman County. I wish WFMH AM would switch to Oldies along with Jimmie Dale's sports, and WMCJ flip to Real Country and keep Les Butler's Front Porch Fellowship/Old Country Church (Solid Gospel Programming) on the weekends. And, they would have to bring back The Flyin' Dutchman for mornings.

I'm picking up WJAM in Montgomery. The Roscoe translator is off. They made an announcement the WJAM format is moving to 1340.

Just read on b5's awesome site that it'll be on March 24th. I'm now assuming that WALX will make some changes on that day too, along with the new WACV 107.9 FM signing on.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. To b5, love your web site. Keep up the great work.

WALX will indeed be switching formats, come Tuesday. This will be their new format.

ALEX 101 playing the greatest Hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Learned about the new format, this morning, while visiting a local gas station. An employee at the gas station and Paul Alexander was speaking about this, just before I got there. (The owner's son)

B.T.W. This radio market is fixing to get very interesting. Although ALEX won't be JACK FM, their presentation will almost resemble it.

I'm glad to hear that it won't be another JACK FM, I believe Alabama has had enough stations flip to JACK FM for one month.

A Jack by any other name is still… no better than an iPod on shuffle!

That's right. Another adult hits station, just using a different name. Wow, that makes four adult hits stations in Alabama now (if I didn't miss any). WAVH in Mobile, and then three new ones within a month (WNPT, WYOK, and soon to be WALX)...Mobile has two of them now, LOL. It's "famine to feast" here in Alabama with the "Jack" format...at least for now. ;)

Sorry, duplicate post. I don't know if I was the one who messed that up, or radio-info...probably just me... :D

Jack FM would have a lot of catching up to do to match the sound of WAVH "106.5 The Pirate". Locally owned, a local morning show, and plenty of promotion of (and at) Mobile-area events.

Another one is WQNR 99.9 licensed to Tallassee. They go by 99-9 Kate FM, and are owned by Tiger Communications along with Eagle 93.9 WQSI and 95.9 The Tiger, and 1230 WAUD.

From what I've just read, in my local newspaper, tomorrow is the big day. Here's more info on the change(s), for those interested: http://www.selmatimesjournal.com/news/2009/mar/22/radio-station-switches-format/#comments

Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted and give you a sample of the new playlist from ALEX FM, the best of the 70s, 80s and early 90s.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Yes I do listen to Kate, when I'm in Montgomery. Their presentation is similar to JACK FM. They play a little bit of everything too.

Oh yeah, I stand corrected; there are five adult hits stations in Alabama now. It hasn't been that long since "Kate" showed up, either. I've heard "Kate" here in south Shelby county before. I was telling my wife about it and that the station name was "Kate", and she replied, "KATE??"...LOL.

Thanks for the info. I'd say, not too shabby from someone who supposedly "opens their mouth and [lets their] brains fall out !!!!!". ;)
