More Changes at ABC15

Spent the last few days in San Diego and the local ABC station there just became part of the Scripps Family. Their newscast is very similar to ABC15 here in Phoenix and also has the constantly echoing of 10NEWS this and 10NEWS that and 10NEWS reporter is live at, etc. They just started a weekend morning show and it spends most of the show replaying stories from the past week. There also are just enough fluff stories to make you wonder are you watching the local news or Inside Edition? Scripps really reconfigured KGTV (ABC10) with what appears to be the standard "marketing" touches.

I wonder if the new news director for KNXV (ABC15) will be able to make this a real news broadcast.

I've spent the past few days in Seattle. I heard from reliable sources that Pat Costello, new ABC15 news director, was very unhappy with changes that upper Belo management was making at KING in Seattle (i.e. letting longtime employees go, keeping the staff on edge about the possibility of losing their jobs, etc.).

Who knows if he will be able to make changes at KXNV? Maybe he just was tired of Belo.

If that's true, then Mr. Costello didn't do much research before taking the job at Scripps/KNXV. From all the job listings for them, the station seems to Phoenix's revolving door for journalists, and Corporate isn't investing in the right kind of programming and promotion.

Susan Caspar to join Sonoran Living

At the end of Friday's morning show, Amy Murphy thanked Susan for filling in over the last few weeks (Kurt and then Connie on vacation) and wished her well. Susan said she was leaving the ABC15 news team and moving to Sonoran Living (also on ABC15).

Wow, lots of changes all over the Phoenix airwaves. I still liked the pairing of Rebecca and Susan on the morning news, but the ratings were obviously not there!

Good for Susan. I still wonder what was the story behind Stephanie Sandoval not getting renewed.
