More Changes At Channel 8 (WROC TV)

Has anyone who watches Channel 8 news noticed that Kevin Doran has been missing from the anchor desk lately? That’s because Doran comes in around 8 in the morning and goes out to cover stories as a reporter. Maureen McGuire will be doing the same thing the following week while Doran anchors. This back and forth routine will continue until 8 hires replacements for Cathy Orosz and Ty Chandler.

So all of you female reporters, especially blondes, who have about a year’s TV experience under your belt send in those tapes and resumes ASAP and you too can be part of the enigma known as Channel 8 news.

::)

yes, I've noticed that too. I also noticed tonight that Elizabeth Harness, their Health Reporter was doing the "lead" story on the Public Market crash... Not that it had anything to do with the Driver's Health or anything... She subs on the Wake Up, when Melanie is out... It looks like it's very tight over there. I wonder who's anchoring 10PM tonight ? Maureen ?? The only other reporter on tonight (6PM) was Joylyn from Batavia... No Dave, Katrina, Lia or Jen. Wonder if they really all have off today or not...

Just as long as Hetsko doesn't leave, I'll be watching...

They are so tight on reporters it isnt evne funny. And they made it worse since they also do the 10 PM newscasts. Its a shame.

What will be interesting to watch is to see just how long Channel 8 takes to hire replacements for the two reporters who recently left. Considering that Nexstar is a bottom-line company, don’t be surprised if McGuire and Doran continue to do double-duty as beat reporters/news anchors for a few more weeks or months. After all in management’s eyes the more money they save the better they look to corporate. Management can just wait until their fiscal year ends then bring in some new replacements for Orosz and Chandler….and anyone else who might leave in between now and whenever Nexstar’s fiscal year begins.

Shoptalk reports Cathy Orosz is heading to Milwaukee. WITI is also where former WROC met. Rob Haswell works. Good luck Cathy!!

Those two, along with Christine Crafts, worked well together when they were hosting Channel 8's early morning program, so it comes as no surprise that Rob might have tipped off Cathy about a pending job opening. It pays to have friends and networking is the best resource when looking for a new job.

Oh MY Gosh! This is so off topic but. I saw a bloopers video on YouTube and Rob Haswell was on it cause it was from that station! He does morning weather for their wakeup show, like he did in Rochester. I thought the guy looked familar. lol

Found the clip... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoJCvsYpFLI

This was pretty funny. Don't think that you'd find Stehlin (Haswell's replacement) talking to Melanie (Cathy's replacement) about stretch marks...

Good Luck to Cathy in Milwaukee... At least she know someone there... Haswell that is.

It's always good, in any industry to network and have contacts... You never know when you may need a favor, recommendation, tip, etc. Luckily I passed on an opportunity to relocate to VA Beach... The company folded about 2 years after I was asked to join them... I worked with the manager there, he called once a week (for about 3 mos.) trying to get me to come down there... I'm still here... Working for another company though...

A large, and I mean LARGE number of people who have left WROC TV have eventually landed jobs in other markets. Jacquie Walker went to Buffalo where she is doing well at Channel 4. Linda Allen went back to her hometown. Melissa Long is with CNN. And now Cathy Orosz is moving to the mid west.

As one of these people once told me having endured working for Channel 8 makes one appreciate, more than ever, the opportunity to get away from that place and be a part of a real broadcasting operation.
