Anybody notice Gwen Freeman missing from morning show??? Rumor is she's quit..leaving Medlock solo. Heard story from an insider....who said you can listen to podcast and hear Gwen & Medlock's altercation right on KFAQ website.

Good gosh!!! If it wasn't for rumors (and negative attitudes) some people would have nothing to say!!!

They ought to offer Seth Andrews the co-host slot if Gwen leaves. He fills in sometimes and does a great job.

Yailbird, you're RIGHT! I heard him fill in... a month ago? Something like that... totally caught me off guard, and he did a GREAT job! That would be an excellent move.

I wonder how Seth got hooked up with KFAQ, and if he'd want it?

Seth? You out there?

UPDATE: Maybe you're right about her leaving? This morning the intro was changed and made NO mention of her, and Chris didn't mention her yesterday or today.

Chris was a good side-kick for her, but I'm not the biggest fan of him in the lead... and I really did like Gwen.

She's not off KFAQ's website yet; could it be some sort of extended vacation?

Sorry to rain on everybody's "pack-everybody-on-the-back parade" here, but neither Chris or Gwen were very good together or alone.

Gwen's got a great voice, buy she couldn't inform and entertain. That's what Delgiorno was brilliant at. Unfortunately his ego ate him up inside out and he imploded. She's a pretty good side-kick, but not an anchor or stand alone morning talent. Shame on Journal for thinking so and riding on Delgiorno's coat-tails with her. With Gwen there, Michaels ghost was always there.

Chris, on the other hand, is just another angry white-man, who can't entertain or provide compelling subject matter. Most people I hear from, can't stand listening to him. But, once again Journal will wring what they can out of this poor lad.

Somebody slap me,

Yours always - Da Judge

Gwen is no longer with KFAQ and Journal Broadcasting.

Major announcement coming soon. Stay tuned for details.

So another one bites the dust. On a more philosophical note, do you think those of us who stay in this business do so partially because we love the drama? Most people in their right minds would get out and find a career with a secure future. Why do we stay? Are you like me in that some days, you curse the industry and swear to leave as soon as it's financially viable? Other days do you cuddle it like a beloved pet and thank your lucky stars you don't have to get a real job?

Let's all have a moment of silence for our sanity.

I think most of the people that are left in commercial radio either:

A. Are basically stuck and would entertain the idea of leaving the industry if a good option to do so came about

B. Are newbies that still think the industry is 'fun'

C. Enjoy the abuse

D. Like the Drama

I think you're observation of liking the drama might represent greatest percentage in reality...

I (over)heard from a reliable source that she quit, and I still say that's a shame... I hope she shows back up somewhere else. I'm finding myself punching away from Chris, even though I like Elvis and Lori. I hope that the "big announcement" brings in somebody new in the lead.

I can't speak for everybody, but for me, do I stay in because I love the drama? I really don't think so.

...OK, why DO I stay in?

There are lots of reasons, I guess: since I was a little kid, people have told me I have a good voice and ought to get into radio. I've always been interested in radio, the hosting, the music, and the engineering. I seem to be good at it, and that's always a plus. I've tried other jobs, and my mind was always in a radio station and I dreaded going to work each day (even when I worked for great companies). There's an ego component, I'm sure, of people saying they heard you on the radio, and it's fun to hear your voice on the air on a commercial or voicetracked.

The main reason, though, as cheezy as it may sound, is that connection with the listener. (Which is why in recent years I tried to get out several times; no connection!)

Whether it's providing needed weather safety information, getting a list of ticket locations for an upcoming concert, or just helping figure out what that song stuck in a listener's head is, I love the feeling of helping, of being needed, and of making that personal connection. When a listener calls and says, "you guys keep me company all day" or "I would have been stuck in that traffic jam if you hadn't mentioned it"... man, that makes my day.

It's, in a small way, my version of "passing it on;" growing up, radio was my constant companion and carried me through all kinds of up and downs. It was the soundtrack to my life. Now, hopefully, I'm providing companionship for someone else, and providing a soundtrack to someone else's life, creating memories for a lifetime or just getting them through the day.

Not too long ago I got away from a LOT of drama, and have never been happier in this biz... for me at least, this business works better WITHOUT drama. Or at the least, the drama should be on the radio, not in the office!

Unfortunately radio feels to me as if it is moving away from the listener connection, working to become an even more passive, background media. I think not engaging people the way video games, DVDs and the internet do is a horrible mistake... however, with Wall Street breathing down our collective necks, the question is how to cut costs, not how to increase income, to improve profitability.

Happily, there are exceptions to this general rule, and I'm lucky enough to have employment at such a set of stations... I count my lucky stars every day!

Regarding Gwen-
I'll bet she turns up in Nashville. Gwen is a smart gal and a terrific talent. I always felt like Gwen's true calling was in voice over work. What a mega talent. That girl needs an agent.
I suspect Gwen knew a change of sorts is coming to AM 1170 and took the first good opportunity to get out. I don't balme her a bit. I wish her the very best.
