MORE Changes in San Luis Obispo

From All Access 2/11:
The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA is buying Romantica 99.7 KXTY, MORRO BAY-SAN LUIS OBISPO,
CA from LAZER BROADCASTING for $1.2 million. The purchase will expand USC's coverage with programming
from its noncommercial Classical KUSC, LOS ANGELES, up to the CENTRAL COAST region of CALIFORNIA.

As I recall, wasn't this the station that Mapleton wanted to buy a few years back? Why did that deal fall
through?

And I believe that KUSC still has a deal pending for 90.5 further down the coast. A couple more stations and I may not have to resort to CD's on my trips up the 101 :)

Mapleton couldn't close on 99.7 because it would have pushed it over station limit. Radio Lazer picked it up. It should be interesting to see how this might shake up the KCBX supporters with an LA based station that is primarily classical.

Looking at the KCBX schedule, it appers they may not have to make too many major adjustments. Mostly a three hour block in the afternoon. A little shift in either the KCRW or KPCC direction would prbably suffice. Or maybe go full time jazz in the afternoon.

Right now I believe that 90.5 is dark. So what becomes of it now?

Looking at the coverage maps, it looks like KUSC managed to get a better deal with the new purchase. Especially since they can get better coverage into SLO and Paso Rbles.

Lazer made out pretty well on this deal. They bought KXTY in '07 from Salisbury for a million and sold it to USC for 1.2 million.
Who says universities are in financial trouble? Oh, that's right. They do.
