More "chess moves" for 96.1 and 106.7 translators in Bham

Just found this on recnet tonight. Following W241AI Gorgas' CP to move to Red Mountain, it now appears that 96.1's former counterpart in Calera, W241BD (now W294BL at 106.7 and rebroadcasting WBPT) has applied to move to Red Mountain as well, with 99 watts at 107.3.

If the app is approved, looks like those folks over at "The Valley" in Helena will be searching for a new frequency again... ;)

When I had a little part 15 transmitter I used 100.1. There was also a dance pirate with a much less legal transmitter in Southside that used 100.1 and it got out all over Jones Valley. I reckon it's only a matter of time before that frequency, too, finds itself taken by a translator.

Time to make the next chess move, methinkst.

I just saw an innocuous little CP for W210CA. It's on 89.9 and rebroadcasts WAY-FM supposedly, with 10 watts.

They got a permit to move up to 180 watts on Red Mountain. The parent station? WBHJ.

Now, I know it could be a placeholder for some other non-comm to come in and put it on from downtown, but think of a possible move to the commercial band: this thing could jump to 100.7 and be a first adjacent like the 106.7 license, right? Then it could move three clicks back and be on… 100.1 in the free and clear!

That's two translators using Cox stations as parents… something definitely is going on, I just wish I knew what! ???

I listened to W210CA this morning on my way to the Bham airport. It was still rebroadcasting WAY-FM's WAYW.
