More classic KLTV Material Surfaces on YouTube

Doing some surfing this week, and came across some classic KLTV material on Youtube, from the early 1980s-1982.

Former KLTV photographer/reporter Robert Hilliard posted this back in September of last year. A goodbye tribute to Hillard, anchor Bobby Perdue, and Steve Lee, introduced by longtime KLTV personality Joan Hallmark. Circa 1980. Interesting to look at how Channel 7 looked back then....including the groovy 70s sets (I mean that literally), and what looks like various incarnations of the "7" logo (including one that looks like the one used at KMGH in Denver back in the 1980s, predating their adoption of the "Circle 7" logo.' And of course closing with the vocal version of "Move Closer to Your World" (completed with the primitive Chryon scroll credits) as the staff gathers around to say goodbye. Hillard has posted a few more pieces from his KLTV years which are worth viewing as well.

And this is a quick promo for KLTV's syndicated offering of MASH, aired in July 1982, along with a ID featuring the "Circle 7" bumper from ABC"s "Come on Along" campaign and a chyron identifying KLTV as "KLTV-Tyler" (back when it was strictly a Tyler station) before fading into the end of the halftime break bumper for "One Life to Live". Narration by longtime KLTV personality Barry Hanson on the MASH spot and the ID Bumper.

It's interesting to see any old KLTV material out there....one just wonders if KLTV (as it approaches it's 60th anniversary next year) still has a ton of its archives in existence.

Actually, KLTV considered itself a regionwide station long before this. But at the time the license only said "Tyler." I remember reading a specific ruling from the company lawyer was that you could say "KLTV Tyler, also serving Longview," which wouldn't work during the :03 ABC allowed in station breaks for an ID, or the :02 that NBC allowed.

It was a really big deal for KLTV when the rules changed and you could add any city after the official COL.

(Yes, I worked there, but not til 1983.)
