I have noticed that WTAG/WSRS have tightened their belts again. They still utilize the Clear Channel based traffic network but have their announcers/news staffs read the reports instead of utilizing the previously heard traffic reporters.
Also, it appears that program director George Brown is now the permanent host of the WTAG morning news. And I have to wonder if they will replace the recently departed Alec Callendar, who left for rival WCRN as their news director, with a full-timer or utilize a part-time employee.
If you recall, the reasons Hank Stolz cited for leaving WTAG for WCRN was the Clear Channel cutbacks last December and WCRN’s commitment to local programming. I wonder how long before WTAG becomes the WHJJ of Worcester with all but 2 hours per day of local programming along with no local news presence.
