More Clear Channel Layoffs?

Say it ain't so!!! But, rumor is there might be more Clear Channel layoffs as early as tomorrow. The Wall Street Journal reported big trouble with CC stock and they say they don't think they're going to be able to pay off their debts. Look for layoffs in Charlotte and Raleigh, as well. CC is going to need to trim to the bone to survive. All very sad during this economic time. I don't like the corporation, but there are a lot of good people working for them.

since you brought it up,
here's what i'm hearing:

each CC station will have 6 people on payroll.
everyone else will be contract labor.
1. station manager @ $48K/year.
2. assistant manager....31 maybe.
3. senior engineer shared
with cluster @ 55K.
4. assist. station engineer...
no salary set. that's bad.
5. senior, AM drive-time talent at market rates.
6. assistant (same) talent at 20% above.
NO sales staff, NO web staff, and only unpaid interns.
sales handled by national auction on the internet(s).
all web sites managed by the Texas office.
those poor interns.
bottom line, this is just gossip/no proof/could change tomorrow.
but....it's what i heard during lunch at Meadowmont today.
" i ain't sayin'....i'm jes' sayin'..."

The idea of NO LOCAL SALES staff at CC could be good news for those who operate locally! Just imagine, one less sales person calling on local clients.

Maybe he meant Jan. 20, 2010. 11 more months and the bloodbath continues!

Welcome to Sarcasm 101. You've failed this course. Take your smug "holier than thou" attitude and please report back to Sarcasm 100 so you can learn what sarcasm really is. ::) ::)

I've often said that if it weren't for salespeople and clients, this'd be a fun business... Maybe CC is looking to put some fun back into radio!

:( The only thing funny about Clear Channel stations are the way they sound, their legacy and Mark Mayes..P.S. I'm too old to go back to Sarcasm 100..I'm already in 501..As much as I despise Obama, maybe he can do something with the FCC and break up all the radio monopolys and then we can get back to "Serving the public interest" as it was designed to be! BIG APE!

I think the old saying was "if it wasn't for those stupid listeners, and those dumb advertisers, radio would be a great business>" IMHO
