More Coast radio history

I recently came across some archived articles from the Sun Herald detailing various tidbits of Coast radio.

Among the interesting information included:

The original Magic 93.7 jock line up

The introduction of modern automation systems to Coast radio and how stations such as QID and Surf 107.1 used them in programming.

The creation of a broadcast group known as Tralyn Broadcasting that was looking to buy stations in South MS. Soon afterwards WLNF/Live 95 came about as the flagship of the group.

The consolidation of station ownership that lead to the formation of Coast Radio Services.

One Kevin Cruise as morning drive man on Rock 96.7.

How station owners LMA other stations and how air personalities of the day felt about having competitors in the same building. This before industry dereg in 1996.

The obituary for WQID :'( , a station that should have never died....

The transition of KISS to 107.1 after ownership became Coast Radio Partners. Also, KISS 107.1 uses of automation for all shifts outside morning drive.

Of interesting note, I learned long time Coast personality Patty Steele was with Power 108. She then became the original mid day jock on Magic only to bolt less than 2 months later for morning drive on KISS 105.9. Patty would stay until the end of KISS 107.1 and later resurface as PD of Power 95. Power 95 was what the Dowdy group rechristened Live 95 after acquiring it from Tralyn. Patty would see Power 95 through its rather short existence and then became PD of Z95.3, of which she had a major hand in creating that format.
Today she is back on mid days at Magic, ironically in her original shift, mid days.

Just some interesting tidbits I thought I share.

Well, maybe it shouldn't have died, but Power 108 sure did kill it. :)
