More Corpus Christi News

3-4-2010 may be the day more translators change in Corpus Christi than any other day in history. BTW if you remember that fact in over two weeks, you really need a life... :)

Here's what we know.

93.5 Is the only translator in the market that doesn't have SOME kind of news. They continue to translate KMIQ OTA.

94.3 recently stopped retransmitting a 24/7 off the air feed of KROB-AM (Seriously) and went to a direct link. No comment as to how they accomplished the feed 24/7 of a daytimer, OTA, before.... A big improvement, nevertheless.

95.9 on the far west side continues to report off the air based on a silent STA for KVFM Beeville (Like they ever really relayed that). :)

96.1 is on, in the last year, from a new site on the South side, While a little short, it's right "In the neighborhood" for a lot of Corpus Christi and does well on the South side, Flour Bluff and The Island. Today it changes programming from Radio Libertdad and a rebroadcast of KDAE on 103.3 to ESPN KSIX 1230 AM. KSIX started migrating from "ESPN 1230" to ESPN Corpus Christi a few days ago. You think they knew something?

103.3 has dropped KDAE and Radio Libertad and is transmitting the test channel from TSN for the Houston Astros ?!?.. A license check shows KSIX has a 950 STL app to feed 103.3 directly. A bandscan tonight indicates they are going to feed 103.3 for a while using a 450 link. As of this writing, 103.3 and 96.1 are both transmitting Dead Air. As the last remaining affiliate of the original Houston Astros network, you have to believe they will go "Live" tomorrow for the first Astros spring training game. YMMV.

104.1 Owned by Edgewater, Retransmitting perennially for sale 106.9 KMZZ and soundinig like it's built with spare pinball machine parts, Under Contract K281AV reverts from KMZZ developer to KDAE purchaser as per the FCC. Radio Libertad moves from 103.3 to 104.1 104.1 can actually run more power than 103.3 in the end, so expect Radio Liberta to fix this sigjnal and get it sounding as good as they have done with their other signals.

Translators comprise their own little world. When half that world changes in a market, in a single day, It's kinda wierd.

I appreciate the CC updates. Now if only some folks in the Valley would let us know what's going on down there.

There really isn't anything happening down here in the RGV. Radio is quite stale and boring here.

Nice!

;D

As per Prof Emmit Brown. :)

103.3 and 104.1 are on the same tower and there seemed to be a LOT of activity over there in the morning, Late afternoon and evening. Tower crew headed by Richard Elizondo did some work and met with a bunch of FAT people. Looks like a 950 paraflector was installed pointing to downtown CC. A few hours later the audio quality for 103.3 got a lot better. But it still is rough. Sounds unprocessed with occasional transmitter clipping. Coverage is great. Audio is not.

104.1 sounds WEAK. Maybe a few dozen watts? It is far inferior to a couple of weeks ago. It sounds great, but only in a very small area.

As predicted, 103.3 (and 96.1) became "ESPN CORPUS CHRISTI" at 10:50 on Thursday. The conversion from dead air went almost flawlessly. A stammering through 30 seconds and then everything was ok. There seemed to be STL issues earlier. They appear to have been resolved now.

KDAE has recently bought a ton of stations. They're on the air from Premont to El Campo. I suspect they will get CC online in short order.

Are you sure 94.3 is running KROB? I checked it out yesterday and I had KROB on at the same time and they did not seem to be the same programming. A couple years ago, I believe 94.3 was running KUKA out of San Diego.

On the southside of CC I can pick up the 96.1 and 103.3 translators. Nice to see AM 1230 available on FM now.

It seems to be the same as 1510. Maybe I missed something..

What is 104.1 broadcasting? Seems like a lot of 104.1's around now.

It depends on the conditions. If it's clear and there isn't any bad tropo out then you should be able to get 103.3 in a car radio in Port A. I've even picked it up in Rockport, TX and as far away as Refugio, TX. If it's a day where the tropo is pretty bad, KJOJ 103.3 in Freeport limits how far out of Corpus Christi the translator will go.

I never had any problems pulling in KJOJ in Lavaca county for some reason. But I'm in south eastern part of the county.

I did catch the KROB liners on 94.3. I wonder when KUKA was taken off the translator.

KROB stated translating on 94.3 FM somewhere between November and December of 2009 shortly after the FCC rulemaking to allow FM translators to rebroadcast AM stations.
