More crap next week .....

Stay Tuned; radio's ugly budget side is showing.

I imagine Clear Channel will finish layoffs next week after their big Radiothon is over. Afterall, they couldn't fire all the talent since they sold a multiple day event to Rady's Hospital months ago.

Yes they still have a few more news people to fire since that will all come from Los Angeles as I imagine the traffic will too. And I have to say that I am sure they will try to pare down some of the morning shows (maybe hoping to sucker some of the laid off folks into becoming daily guests ala Ruth 66).

I remember how much the late Victor Diaz warned against the evil way that Jacor and then CC did business and how bad they were for the industry he loved but all the predominant viewpoint then was that paying way more than what stations were worth could somehow result in riches for stockholders and management. Gosh knows you have to wonder how many radio station employees blew whatever meager savings they had on CC stock? In the end, the Bain folks will lose it all and the only ones walking away with money are the Mays boys. I will note that Victor decided he could not keep up the fight against CC and decided his family would take the cash and he made money from the Mays (unlike no doubt many small station owners who took stock in trade for their signals).

Victor Diaz refused to subscribe to Arbitron and then bitterly complained that traditional ad buyers would not *comply* with his rate card. It was just another
conspiracy in his head.

regards.

He had a few of those theories, but working side-by-side with him as a Vice President at Califormula I never saw him bitterly complain about ratings, or anything else for that matter: he always managed to laugh at himself, at circumstances and at his delight in making tons of money without paying Arbitron and supporting its monopoly.
