More Cumulus NWA Cuts?

From AllAccess.com: Dre is out due to more budget cuts.

He just started doing mid-days on KKEG too. Is anyone else out?

From my source. The O.M., Dre, p-t engineer, and a salesperson. They are also planning on blowing up the Keg and putting a new format on 98.3 to compete with The X. It's bizarre to me that Cumulus continues to try and take the fight to Butler when Clear Channel has all the shares in the market and just gets fatter. 92.1 got smacked around taking on The X several years ago. A monkey could figure out that they will end up with about the same or less share than what the Keg already has,(there are only 15 shares of rock in this market) and it is considerably a harder sell on the street to clients than Classic Rock. Want a better idea Cumulus? How about taking a word of advice from the baseball great Ted Williams and "hit'em where they ain't". Imagine a 15-30 minute segment of a station that plays Grateful Dead, Van Morrison etc.etc. mixed in with Cate Brothers, Nace Brothers or the countless others that sell out for Brian Crowne over at George's Majestic Lounge. THAT older demo here is not being served AT ALL musically. They and clients here would support that, believe me.

Simulcast the AM on one and put classic hits or AAA on the other.

I remember when the Keg took on the X. That would've been 02-03...

I still have a "92.1 The Zone" T-shirt...

The Zone was a weird station that only had two live jocks and one who was voice tracked. The station never really clicked because there seemed to be only one person who really cared about it over at Cumulus (The PD)..

All of the attention went to KMCK and that was IT....

If Cumulus is preparing a new rock format on 98.3 to take on the X, it will probably be a failure if they treat it like how they treated The Zone....

DIZ Guy, since it was my love of Ted Williams that got me into radio in the first place, I hate to be disagreeable... but, it was "Wee Willie" Keeler who said "Hit 'em where they ain't." ???

I agree with dday, taking on the X is not a good idea. The X has the listeners for that format and Cumulus is not going to take them away. If they were smart, the would make 98.3 a Classic Hit station or an oldies of some sort. The need to hit some thing that is not already in the market. I can say 1 thing for the X, it is live and local which Cumulus is not. That's why the format on 98.3 should not compete with the X, they will loose again!

It doesn't seem to make sense for Cumulus to put another rock format on in the market with the KEG already in place.

I found out from a part timer (so take this with a grain of salt) that JJ Ryan from Power 105.7 is now the PD of KQSM. If that is true could KQSM be flipping to maybe a young format like rhythmic and/or hot country since Sam hasn't been doing well? The Vibe has done pretty well in Ft. Smith I believe so maybe they are thinking about trying it here?

I hope somone does something. I am about to cut my XM due to the rate increase. I may have to get use to bad radio here in NWA. Hopefully a new station comes along. We need on bad since the junk is not going away.

How about a classic top 40 format on 98 (Like 106.1 out of Tulsa....)

That is a great idea!! I would love that. I think that would work here. It is not working so well in Tulsa because there are several stations there doing Classic Rock type formats, as here we have one. I think here the format would do great. Lets hope that Cumulus is thinking outside the box.
