More cuts at KSMB Lafayette

Yo Rex.....You're like so many blowhards who read a paragraph and become to self appointed expert on the topic. Kenny Hazelett was 48....he was convicted of carnal knowledge......and why did the DA not require him to register in Louisiana as a sex offender ????. This is not to justify his actions but the clarify a few facts. Why did the mother who had gone bankrupt from a personal business offer to no file charges if $250,000 was paid. Six months later when the the girl became pregnant by another man in his 30"s no charges were filed. The fact is there are layers to this story that would make an interesting book. I know Kenny and unlike many he never denied his guilt but has spent the last decade trying to support his family after he'd been pretty much blackballed out of radio. He thanks God for friends like kudzooter who look at the entire picture.

Boy how have things gotten heated up in here. I have worked the Lafayette radio market and will say that it is obvious who is who on this discussion. "Ihearall" or should I say "IthinkIknowitall" has taken a hit at Chris Reed below the belt. And to think that when I worked in Lafayette he was good pals with Chris. I think its cheap and totally unprofessional of the guy to that, but as always what goes around will come back around. Just ask CJ of KTDY Chris...he can expalin. I agree with radiopixie in that if Chris had to structure his career after anyone, Seacrest isn't a bad choice. I sure wouldn't pattern mine after anyone still in a market size over 100. Lastly, I'm truly concerned as to how someone not in radio any longer has access to ratings still in the Lafayette radio market? "Ihearall" must still be in the market don't you think? Chris and everyone else let go from there should soon hear larger markets knocking. Oh how that place has changed in just a few short years.

I was thinking the same thing. From the sound of things, I'd even venture to say it sounds like they may be employed by Citadel themselves. Good for them I guess...at if they are employed by Citadel, they have either successfully dodged a bullet OR should be updating their resume considering the bloodbath that continues to threaten Citadel Lafayette.

No dinosaurs on CHR!

Yes, Kenny Hazelett was convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile while working mornings on WYNK.
He was 48 you say? I doesn't matter if he was 19. The girl was 14 years old. Back in 1998 there was no La State Police child predator website. Kenny was grandfathered in.

Are you and Kud alleging the DA's office acted improperly in their conviction of Mr. Hazelett?
Are the victim and her family aware of your comments and feelings?
If you feel Mr. Hazelett was wrongfully prosecuted, then by all means you need to go the DA ASAP.

Anyone convicted of having sex with children should be blackballed and not defended like Novasap did for Kenny. Maybe he sympathized because they are about the same age.

Rex be puttin' it in yo face :p

Rectums Trimblejaw, congratulations on being hard-wired that way, or on being nurtured so that you never suffered any of the insecurities that made so many of us what we were on the air -- i.e., being large of voice but small of body, and knowing the
sting of "not measuring up" somewhere along the way. That means, you never were put in a position where you were in constant company with someone -- maybe, like in this case, constant family-enforced (mother, uncle) company, with someone whose ID said 14 but whose appearance/demeanor read "25 going on 40." As for whether there was wrongful DA prosecutorial conduct, that was too long ago to have any accurate way of knowing. Most likely, it was one of those cases where you had a DA's office barely able to keep up with all the work on REAL crimes...and not daring to let a famous, 10-year market-owning morning DJ go...so they ran with what looked/sounded like an old man molesting a child...and Kenny paid a hell of a price for what he was tempted into doing. But the less than maximality of that price, has to tell you even that DA's office wasn't all that convinced this was really "justice."
Meanwhile, you sit back there, throwing all your venom over the fence...at Kenny, at Bobby, and even slightly at me (no problem there, turkey wimple--I've had a lot worse said about me by a lot better people...and I still haven't done a freakin' MINUTE of jail time)...and you hide behind your pompous sounding little name. Pitiful, dude...freakin' GD pitiful.

IMHO, What KSMB needs is to be bought out by a smaller company that can dedicate more resources to the station. Blow out everyone and rebuild the station from the ground up. New imaging, hotter processing, up beat high energy talent, and more listener interaction.

A shift to Album Rock and a few personalities would be great. How about Soxless as PD. And call it K94 KSMB Lafayette..Where Louisiana Rocks!

Appreciate the thought, smashed. But I'll accept only if I can do it from here at Shack in da Hills, in the middle of the night, in my flannel jammies and bunny-toe house shoes -- just like I'm posting this. ;D

when I met my current wife she was 14 and I was in radio. When she was 15 we were dating. When she was 17 I was married to her. When I met her I was 27!And in radio.

I certainly hope you waited until she was 18 before you had sex. Otherwise Rex is gonna have you blackballed or, worse yet, locked up!

If you ever get the chance, ask MTB's Doug Gray to tell you about his rude awakening after a post-Shreveport concert encounter slash kama sutra indoctrination from an appreciative fan. His summation: "Dad blame it, Scottie. They oughta make 'em have to be like trees -- so ya kin jes' count the rings, and never have to worry 'bout how old." ::)
