Word on the street has it....that Mark Watkins.....AND Brad Barton are out at KRLD!!! So much for them owning the weather flag in the metro area. Has anyone heard this to confirm?????

Well Barton survived the lawsuit about the "Evolution File", so he was probably on borrowed time. As for Watkins, he will be missed. Where has Kym West been??

Long-time talent is a financial drain. Sadly, once again, programming choices are made without alot of consideration of long term effect. Maybe, their departure is a false rumor. Hope so.

I imagine they will you utilize the CBS11 weather team for forecasts to save $$$. Too bad - Brad will be missed.

I've noticed Kym West has been sporadic. Alice Rios as well. Seem to be subtle changes on the air...I just thought it was vacation time, but seems to be more to it.

And please do fill us in on the "evolution file"? Not familiar with it.

Watkins posted it on his Facebook.

The lesson here is, it doesn't matter if you are the best at what you do; if you make the most money, you will be the first let go when times get tough. Mark is the best newsman, bar none, in the region, and one of the few possessing a complete skill-set for radio news.

And that 'Evolution File'... a former employee sued for racial discrimination, alleging the acting news director had a file containing notes on black employee performance. It was labeled the 'Evolution File' for only Brad knows what reason.

So much for weather coverage period!! WBAP lost it some time ago, now KRLD.Time to get a weather radio for sure. John Summers was cut too at KLUV from what is leaking out. Well ABS will fill the slots at 8.00 an hr now.

Citadel, Cumulus, CBS, Clear channel.
If your broadcast co. starts with a "C",
They don't care about quality
Just quantity.

Keep the resume's fresh and the airchecks crisp...oh hell it doesn't matter. They are not looking for professional broadcasters anymore.

Man Am I glad I don't work for these guys.

Christ!!!

As sad as this is, I honestly cannot say I didn't see this coming. Radio is killing itself, and all these veteran broadcaster terminations within the past year or so, are the obvious clues.

I don't care what the ratings reports say... Radio, is dead.

May it R.I.P.

I am indeed out! I will be doing a weekend shift on Saturday and I will continue to voice the Beatle Breakfast show on Sunday morning.

Sorry to hear about this John. I wish you the best.

John-Sorry to hear the bad news...I'm glad that I was one of your colleagues at KLUV and hope nothing but the best for you. It breaks my heart to see what is happening to an industry I love so much..but at the same time I have washed my hands of it. I'm done. I hope you do better than I did...you're a good guy John and don't deserve this nonsense!

Sorry to see you go, John. All these changes just compel me to listen to SiriusXM even more.

Indeed at least Pflash Phelps on channel 6 on XM-Sirius knows how to entertain compared to what is on terrestrial stations.

I don't have XM-Sirus, but I get my fix from Internet radio, via Live365.com. Wow, do those webcasters know their stuff!

XM/Sirius has their share of changes and cut backs and they don't pay their talent that much. 95% of the talent you say is so great comes from terrestrial radio and 60% of XM/Sirius jocks went back to Terrestrial radio including creator Lee Abrams. Radio is in trouble yes but not dead. 94% of people still listen and many well programmed stations draw huge crowds at station events.

Most stations will be available on the internet over the coming years. It will be a new dawn for many many terrestrial stations. As always there are good and bad stations. The good ones, IE: Content, great talent, compelling contest will continue to thrive.

Glad to see John Summers out at KLUV. He was way overused at the station and sounded horrible to boot. He had no range and was "always on". You can't play every afternoon like it's a Saturday Night.
