I was sitting in my car waiting for my wife in a parking lot in Saco, Maine and while doing a scan of the band the radio stopped at 88.1 and I was thinking to myself that was never there before so thought new station or a pirate? I was shocked when I heard the calls KDHX coming in clear in stereo almost 2000 miles away from St. Louis, MO. Anyone else get any other catches around Northern New England?

St. Louis<=>Maine is more like 1,200 miles, but still a pretty good catch!

Perhaps you picked up the FM link of a satellite radio receiver... I listen to Howard for free down around the bottom of the FM dial all of the time. Someone on my block is a subscriber I guess.

w9wi I meant to type 1000 miles lol my bad and louiemanno it was e-skip I am sure of it not a sat receiver. I was sitting in a parking lot for one and it was a solid not shaky signal with a clear ID.

I think the phenomenon is called "FM Ducting"??? Something with the atmosphere causes radio waves to jump all over the place. Last time I heard it was a Georgia station jumping to Northern Mass... and if memory serves it was this time of year around 10 years ago.

E Skip is a common thing that happens every year around this time, so it's happened MANY more times within the past 10 years. It is common to hear stations from Georgia during E Skip. Tropospheric ducting can also happen at various times during the year, bringing in signals usually closer than E Skip, and normally with signals being best at night/in the morning.
