More Forever self praise

From Today's CDT...more dribble from the Forever Camp
http://newspaperads.centredaily.com/RopAds.aspx?adv=109684&ad=1973342

The thing that I find amazing here is that last week, Forever has an open letter to the community basically blasting the "questionable numbers" of Arbitron and then a week later they run a full page ad boasting their #1 position.

There is one thing in the ad that is sure enough true however..."Thanks for making us the MOST POWERFUL radio company in Centre County". Isn't that the truth. When you OWN IT ALL...you can do whatever you want. You don't need to do good radio...you just have to do radio and people will listen because they have little choice.

Gotta love capitalism baby! Long live the little guys who have to stand up against giants like this. To 3-WZ, The Buzz and my personal favorite little 50,000 watt FM powerhouse G101...more power to ya! Stand together and don't back down.

I see that Lite isn't talking about Bob & Sherri.

Love the mug shots and autographs at the bottom of the ad. It could be a new product - Forever Broadcasting trading cards. Collect them all!

LOL...only trouble is you'd only get ONE trading card with every $5000 spent on advertising (2 cards if you do the 6 month commitment COMBO BUY for $7500 billed in 6 equal monthly installments) and if you decided the ad buy you made was not working for you, or you missed a payment they'd have the repo man come take back your cards.

Try being a little business and looking to do a 2-3 week blitz to drum up some quick business and see what kind of rates you pay if you get a deal at all. Trouble is most new upstarts that are small mom and pop operations cannot sink that kind of cash into their advertising.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze it's radio, not brain surgery. It's not like they're Wal-Mart and if people don't like what they hear, that's why they invented the tuner. I do however find it interesting that radio stations continue to fight their battles in the newspaper - I guess they don't think their stations are enough to get the word out.

but they can afford 6000 a month rent in a strip mall and 2000@month advertizing in the CDT? Let's give 'em $4 spots and help 'em out.

Sour Grapes?

Or is everyone legitimately concerned about issues of monopoly and all things FCC proper?

We all miss Missaretha and the Mountain man too - I though I saw them on a milk carton

Besides the fact that I DO believe that what is hapenning in this and other neighboring markets is truly a monopoly, or may as well be...I recognize the fact that any one company that controls this much take away creativity from the marketplace, takes away choice from the consumer and ultimately sets the tone for advertising rates.

I would feel this way no matter what company it was. I know nothing first-hand of Forever as I never worked for them...but I have seen enough of their business practices to know that I do not think I like what they stand for. They have done some good radio and some bad radio too...but overall I just do not like ANY one company that wants to have that much control. And they must know that what they do skirts the law...why else do they have people like Galli in the mix, or look at the way they acquired WPRR in a back-door deal where it was run by a phantom company for a year or 2 before they finally stepped in and made the takeover official.

Slice it and dice it any way you want...they are a company our to rule the world...or to put it another way....they are the Wal-Mart of Radio!

Re: Sour Grapes?

Rumor has it that Nick Galli is Sam Walton's 3rd cousin, first removed. Good radio? How can anyone do good radio when you have Mitch Craig locked out of the market...this is what the FCC should be looking into! It's just not fair.

Re: Sour Grapes?

I can't speak for everyone, but in my case, the FCC ownership rules are a great concern. If any one owner (small ones or big ones) controls too much of a marketplace, they can (and will) limit access to the airwaves to those who are either; A) Their friends or B) Their paying clients. This cannot permitted. For those who counter this with the inevitable "it's a free market" argument I say this: Radio in the 21st century is equitable to the town square of the 18th, so imagine being prohibited from congregating to discuss something because all the streets were owned by one person who didn't agree with you. It's one of the things we fought that whole whacky revolutionary war over.

Besides, deregulation only exists because they handed out too many 'class A' permits in the 80's and it was the only way to keep them on and the fees coming in.

Thank you

For actually answering the question instead of picking out one particular company, telling us how much you don't like their business practices when you've never worked for them and giving such a well thought out answer.

Oh and I agree with you too.

This thread is titled "More Forever self praise". How can you knock a guy for bringing up one company when the subject *is* that company? And how about not hijacking the guy's thread about Forever by asking a question which results in an answer which results in a reply by you in which you are going to criticize the same guy for bringing up Forever. Huh? Huh?

Perhaps your question could have been more clearly expressed as the initial posting in another thread.

I am intentionally being an a--hole here, which is hard because usually I don't have to do it intentionally, as it just comes naturally to me.
