More GEEK assessments of HD Radio...

try reading the hilarious comments on this one, especially the wife of an HD station's engineer...

Now that is extremely funny. Bravo to her for posting that!

Yep. Here's a mindset, though.

In short, HD radio is pretty much like HDTV. It's whizbang technology in theory, but in practice, the broadcasters aren't doing much with it because nobody's listening,

HDTV isn't worth it. Got it. Everyone has an opinion.

Here's a few others... No poster is repeated...

The side channels are fairly interesting, depending on your taste. They tend to be things like "deep tracks" or a sub category of their genre.
Unlike Sirius and XM, you don't have to pay for HD Radio.
Once HD radios are more common the poor satellite schlubbs are going to be begging for customers...even more than they are now.
Yeah, I just got this thing, and I use the RCA inputs with a direct audio adapter. Frankly, the HD radio sounds MUCH better than Sirius.

Funny how things get skewed here.

Why stop there Clouseau? Why not post these comments....

Give it up "HD-Radio"...Too Little, Too late! It's satellite all the way! Sirius to be exact! ;-)

or

Yep, you can listen to all those commercials in HD. Whoopdee f'n do.

and

Then again, you will be listening to countless commercials and limited to the handful of stations available in HD.

also

Long story short -- if you talk to 100 people, I bet at least 90 will have at least heard of XM/Sirius...but fewer than 20 will know about HD-Radio.

If that's not enough try...

Yay, I want to be the first in line to pay 300 to keep my old head unit AND listen to 30 mins of commercials an hour. YAY! Go Free FM and Diamond Dave!

maybe...

How much value is there in HD Car Audio really? I know some said it when CD's first came out, but I am very happy it the MP3-like quality of my XM. Our cars are terrible places to try to listen to HD. XM and MP3s are enough for us, as well as more than enough for the 'dub' crew thumping out bass..

You got enough Clouseau, or do you need more tantalizing proof of how well HD is progressing?

My My... Hostile aren't we.

My comments were about the original MISCHARACHARIZATION of the overall message in the link. Clearly it is a mixed bag. You've done that again... In spades...

The first two pearls of literacy are posted in their entirety. Stunning in their insight.

Your next quote is taken out of context. It is NOT an anti HD radio post. It reads...

I have not used this product, but I am willing to bet that, if you use this on a clean FM frequency, the quality of the sound from this HD radio will be as good or better than that from XM or Sirius. If you use the RCA output, it will be significantly better.

Then again, you will be listening to countless commercials and limited to the handful of stations available in HD. But, you won't be paying a monthly charge, either.

Again a mischaracterization of what is there. Why are you so desperate? Lets do the next one......

Long story short -- if you talk to 100 people, I bet at least 90 will have at least heard of XM/Sirius...but fewer than 20 will know about HD-Radio. And it all comes down to the profit that comes with making subscription-based "technology" known to the public. How many people paying for cable even know that they can pick up all the major networks in HD with a little antenna? Most assume if they want HDTV they have to pay for it...but there's quite a lot of good to be seen, for free, on the network and PBS stations.

Now That's damining. Accurately portrayed by you as negative as well. You just can't stop the slant can you? How about these last two???

Yay, I want to be the first in line to pay 300 to keep my old head unit AND listen to 30 mins of commercials an hour. YAY! Go Free FM and Diamond Dave!

I'd like to give everyone the benefit of the context of these, but they aren't from the linked post. Yep You FABRICATED that they are part of the link. When if doubt, deceive. Is there anything else you'd like to attribute to this linked blog?

Mix in some things in the post next time...

Dig a little on this website, it'll add some intellect instead of attacking someone which makes you look STUPID... You're an engineer RIGHT, try a little searching in the website or was it 4 years of wasted college or 2 years of wasted tech school.... which one?

Engineers don't need to search websites to make up thier minds. People who have spent their lives in radio actually have their own experience, and unlike many here, are capable of forming INFORMED opinions. Nobody can tell me that HD technology doesn't work properly, when it does AT MY HOUSE for many hours EVERY DAY. There's nothing some moron could write on a website that would change the easily demonstrable fact that IT WORKS JUST FINE!

Hey, RP...

What's the expression... Enhance your calm.

I never said you made it up. I said ...

"You FABRICATED that they are part of the link. When if doubt, deceive. Is there anything else you'd like to attribute to this linked blog?"

I merely pointed out that you posted it as part of the link. And you did. And it's not on there. I checked again.

I am certain there are vast quatities of opinions all over that site and the internet as a whole. No arguement there. And I'm sure anyone could "DIG" and find virtually anything. However when you say something is part of a link and it's not there... Well BS on you... :)

As for the delightful...

You're an engineer RIGHT, <snip> was it 4 years of wasted college or 2 years of wasted tech school.... which one?

Sadly, there is no longer a requirement for either. And that has not improved the state of radio or the world. As for where I fit into the mix, it's not relevant here.

Best regards.

Clouseau

I don't think radio engineers are made in tech schools or colleges, anyhow. If you really are an "engineer", you're already pretty well informed about radio technology before darkening the door of a school. If you're 18, and have never taken anything apart to see how it works, have never strung a longwire antenna through the backyard, have never asked the local radio station for permission to just 'hang around', have never built your own radios/amplifiers/antennas/etc. from scratch, and have never read engineering manuals FOR FUN, then don't bother with the schoolin'. You're not going to be the kind of engineer I'd want at my station!

There's a guest editorial in the back of the new Radio World entitled "Education does not an engineer make!" I couldn't agree more. I'm not saying you shouldn't go to college. GO! LEARN! But understand that, if you are really born to be an engineer, you may already know as much as your professor. You CERTAINLY know enough to keep him on his toes! DO IT! PUSH THE LIMITS! SHAKE WHATEVER HE MAY KNOW THAT YOU DON'T (YET) OUT OF HIM! Real engineers, smart as they are, are hungry to learn more!
