more HD in pensacola

it looks like WYCL is starting or will be broadcasting in HD radio. according to their site, there's a HD radio logo on it but tuning around in the frequency, no noise so I assume it's not on.

i don't know who else will be broadcasting in HD radio. i seriously doubt any FWB stations will, if so,
more then likely be *** stations.

i would like to see 93.3 have their AM aff on HD-2 since WFTW's night time pattern SUCKS as it's null thanks to their directional signal.

are we supposed to rely on new orleans with the nice RR key every minute from cuba? thank you very much, FCC

The only Pensacola stations broadcasting in HD are WUWF, WJLQ and WTKX. UWF has the Folk/AAA stuff on their HD-2, TK has alternative on their HD-2 and WJLQ isn't running a second channel. All of the Mobile Clear Channel stations are running HD, with sub channels, so it's just a matter of time before WYCL joins them. I wonder when Cumulus will start running sub channels? Some gangsta hip-hop on WBLX-HD-2 would be cool.

ROB!! you won't be able to hear some HD "noise" on an analogue radio!! its a DIGITAL signal...much like an analogue TV can't pick up a DTV station!!

then WTF is this sound im hearing on 94.9 and 100.7 sounds like digital data? it's digital noise.

trust me i bloody hear it.

Perhaps there'll soon be an HD channel on WKSM to mirror their cool AC days in the late 70's and early 80's as RADIO 99. "There's always a better song on RADIO 99." (I still have a bumper sticker that has an interstate sign/99 on it). Of course this was long before their frequency change/power increase.. when they were still LOCAL.. battling out with WNUE-AM!!!!

that would be nice.
fort walton beach needs more variety.

not just CHR CHR CHR..rock country sportz... and satellite fed jones
makes me wonder if coast 93.3 will grow out of the 80's weekend and start doing 70s-90s weekends.
im sure the jocks there are getting tired of playing the same ol 80's tunes as well as the listeners.

Are you sure? You can read about people complaining about iboc digital noise on AM stations in big cities on other boards. If you were using a dial instead of a digital tuner, why would FM be different? I've never noticed any noise and I am far from an being educated on this, but it seems like it would be harder to fine tune an analog FM station that was running HD on the same frequency. TV stations are using different channels for their digital signals, so that doesn't seem like a good comparison.

One other idea, Rob is complaining about the signal of Mobile stations that he's receiving in Fort Walton, 60-70 miles away from the transmitters. If a station is running HD, wouldn't that make the analog signal more susceptible to co-channel and adjacent channel interference on the fringe of their listening area?

the AM HD is a different story--it should be illegal due to the trouble it causes on that band!! FM HD is much different...you can't tell if you're hearing any HD noise (it doesn't destroy the regular analogue signal like AM HD does)...

and rob--even if you were to hear some HD noise on the FM band, it wouldnt be "digital noise"...it would most likely come in the form of static.

k. it's got it's own sound though and ruins DX (gurr)
on adjacent frequencies.

That HD Radio logo is a part of the new Clear Channel interactive template. Most if not all Clear Channel radio websites have it in their navigation bar, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they're going HD.

On an analog receiving radio you will hear an unatural "hiss" on the adjacent frequency to the station broadcasting HD. Your radio will show "tuned" or a signal on the meter if it has one. If you are a DXer you will wonder why you rarely if ever hear anything but hiss on these adjacent frequencies. Frequencies in the Ft Walton / Pensacola area with IBOC "hiss" are 87.9, 88.3, 92.7, 93.1, 94.7, 95.1, 100.5, 100.9. 95.1 WBPC Ebro / Panama City can rarely be heard due to 94.9 WKSJ's HD signal interfering. Basicly it comes down to the fact that an HD station is occupying 3 frequencies. All the excitement about HD is just hype. Nothing more than radio stations trying to find a way to get people excited and gain more advertising $$. I bought a HD radio over the summer and am not impressed. With a good quality tuner with a good antenna you can hear in full stereo sound at least 70 radio stations from Ft Walton Beach any time of the day or night with plenty of variety.
