More JACKs on-air

ABC Radio Networks adds 2 new JACKs to the roster (and I've added them on jack.fm for those playing along at home):

96.3 JACK-FM/Susanville, CA (KLZN - brand new baby radio station coming off a CP) 6/27/2006

101.1 JACK-FM/Kodiak, AK (KRXX) 7/3/2006

Welcome to the family!

And so long, on-air people. Now that the station's automated with canned voicers, who needs ya?

Steppenwolf....even if Jack didn't exist there wouldn't be local DJs in all probability. They just would have signed up for Scott Shannon.

Yeah Stepp ---

Even alot of McDonald's are no longer local voices at the drive thru. They are voiced from India of all places. I know
this puts you in a tough situation, but man give this board a break and go improve your skills or something. This isn't
the 1980's much anymore! :D

How'd you hear about that? McD's liked my aircheck and put me on the drive-up window. They replaced me with someone with a heavy Asian accent, saying I ran too slow a board.

Not to get too far off-topic...;D...but could you imagine if McDonalds hired drive-in people like radio?

You show up with your T&R, only to have the manager listen to it and tell you that he doesn't hear enough
"suggestive sell" in your voice?

Remember, according to certain people, most McDonalds managers are obviously displaced radio people thanks
to Jack ==== yah yah yah...yawn. Nicer uniforms than in radio, though. Call letters confusing though --- M upside
down when your drunk IS a "W.."

More importantly --- where the hell is Oldiescat? I hope he/she/it is well. Lets hope to hear from you soon, ole buddy.

OC must have gotten a job. Now he doesn't have time to post on every single board on here. Anyone with a real job can't have that much time on their hands to post 3000+ messages. Either that or his boss figured out he wasn't doing anything and got fired so now he can't afford the internet.

Just my thoughts :)

I don't care what year this is, I want something there that says I'm not listening to a tape or cd...or ipod...something that is known as radio personality.

Radio personality! What a great idea! I look forward to hearing that on a Jack station some time soon.

Try 96.9 Jack FM in Vancouver... or 92.3 Jack FM in Smiths Falls/Ottawa. All of the Canadian Jack FMs (except Toronto) have jocks and actually sound really good.

It's pretty much the American Jack FMs (specifically CBS' Jack FMs) that are lacking in the jock department... and it's the American Jack FMs (all, not just CBS') that are the ones who started the whole "iPod on your radio" kind of imaging. The Canadian Jacks have never used that kind of positioning.

NOTE: The Jack FM in Smiths Falls is a departure from the usual Jack format. That Jack is more of a classic hits format. To quote from Lou Pickney's VarietyHits.com -
In early November 2005, the station shifted toward playing 60s/70s, still keeping the JACK-FM name, imaging and branding. It now plays only 2-3 80s songs per hour along with the older songs, but nothing newer, from what I'm told.

OldiesCat is fine. I sent him an email a few weeks ago and he said he's tied up with things right now. I don't know if it's job related or personal, but seriously, give him a break.

Do you know how many people have 3000+ postings? Lots. Look at David Eduardo.

I know, all the jack haters are only here

Personally, I LOVE Jack ... but not to listen to! Many former Jack listeners find my stream and say they enjoy it more than Jack. I'll take listeners any way I can come by them. If the Jack craze is going to give me more listeners in the long run, long live Jack.

Seriously, Jack is a interesting concept except the version that terrrestrial radio uses isn't as listenable as the original format Perry developed. I've heard the original and many of the stations that have adopted the format are simply not executing well.

It seems like some of the Jacks are really becoming more "concentrated", like they seem to have a set playlist now. There's less of an "oh wow" factor/

But, to be successful, I guess you'll have to lean one way and do some research. The VH stations evolving are doing well.

Personally, I prefer stations like "Ben", "Bob", or "The Arch" because it seems like they have larger playlists and jocks.

Are there any Jacks with jocks?

Read my post about 3 posts up from yours. To sum it up, though, all of the Canadian Jack FMs (sans Toronto) have jocks. I'm not sure if any in the US have a full-time jock lineup, but there are some with a morning show (KFMB-FM/Jack in San Diego). There may be others I'm missing, not too sure though.

In agreement with Bill above, the original webstream of Jack FM is a lot better than any of the terrestrial Jacks I've listened to (I listen via their streams). Much more variety than the terrestrial ones. Only thing is that I like Cogan's rendition of Jack better than Perry's. :p (Sorry Bob!)
