More KTCK rumors

Found a rumor on another forum about KTCK changing formats soon. I figure it's a prank but thought I'd ask here.

It seems like a good prank with the "tell-all" expose coming out and everything.

It has a hint of being true with the number of unsponsored segments lately. Thing is, it's contract renewal time. I'm declaring hoax, too.

You will always see a drop in sponsorship and commercial advertising spots, not to mention all of the economical woes, after the Holidays.

However, at this point, I would say "The Ticket" would and should be very safe. It is a programers dream - a basic format with new material and information everyday.

I bet we see a BIGTIME reduction in salary on KTCK by this time next year. The PPM data has NOT been kind. You really think Cumulus is gonna pay those salaries for anything but #1???? And they ain't CLOSE to #1 in M18-34 or M25-54

The rumor is effective March 1. It will go Indian -Pakistani and will carry the S.E. Asian Cricket matches ???

John Doe, please learn SOMETHING about radio before posting here. Pretty tough to cut salaries when the talent works on CONTRACT. And the PPM doesnt mean a &%$ thing to TICKET. Technical buyers didn’t buy the TICKET anyway, because it was already too expensive on a CPP basis. Business owners aren’t going to cut a successful campaign because you hand them a report that says another station is "better." And nobody believes that the PPM indicates that the audience has changed its listening habits.

Charlie,
If nobody thinks that they (advertisers) care, then why are so many stations making changes based completely on PPM results? Do not think for a second that the Ticket is not worried about the free fall that their numbers are in right now. EVERYBODY is concerned about that.

BOY...we all know a contract means a radio person cannot get fired. My point is those high salaries were based on #1 books. In the diary world, KTCK WAS #1. They're not anymore. KTCK did a great job of working the diary syatem..."remember the time you spent listening....P-1s, etc etc"....but, times have changed. While all these advertisers won't jump ship, more than a couple will be willing to give someone else a chance that can absolutely prove they have a bigger audience. You don't think the Ticket salesfolk sold on those #1 books???? NOW, they're gonna go back and say...."UUummm wellll ratings don't REALLY matter"? The smoke and mirrors are over. It's 2009 and you're a fool if you don't think Cumulus wouldn't LOVE to knock some of the salaries on KTCK off the bottom line.

{quote}In Arbitron’s first portable people meter report in Dallas-Fort Worth, the market’s three all-sports stations combined for a 5.4 percent market share, including a 2.6 share for KTCK, the Cowboys’ flagship station, among persons 12-plus. For the same month, Houston’s four sports stations combined for a mere 2.7 percent market share. The three D-FW stations had an average weekly cumulative audience of 1.23 million; the four Houston stations totaled 776,700.{/quote}

How can Johnqdoe post that KTCK is "not even close" in M25-54 PPM? They were second in the market, behind KZPS. Dunham and Miller were #1 in the market with a 6.9, more than two full shares ahead of second place! The other shows were all in the top 5. Every daypart beat ESPN. It hardly looks like KTCK is struggling with PPM. And, given those numbers, I would doubt that Cumulus would cut the pay of anyone on their most profitbale station.

I always thought this board was more about talking facts and less about idiots spreading mis-information. I guess I was wrong.

In the old system, KTCK was in the top 3 25-54 total. In the new one, it is near the bottom of the top 20. If the male numbers are unchanged, the female numbers must have almost completely disappeared. Granted, they target a male audience. On the air, they used to point out, when under the old system, they were just not #1 or #2 in M25-54, but also up at the top total 25-54.

What explains the pretty substantial drop in the total 25-54 numbers -- old diary system over-estimated the number of W25-54 listening, new system under-estimating that same audience, combination of both? Just curious about the differences between the systems since there seems to be a pretty large gap with these numbers...

You are correct, their women number are the ones that have taken a nose dive. But, in what I know about how that station operates, they don't care about that...all they focus on is the Men 25-54 demo. That's it. That's what they sell, that's what talent is bonused on...nothing else. So, if their morning show is still a dominant number one in the market in their target demo, then I would imagine the station is happy. And with the other shows falling a bit, but all still in the top 5 in their target demo, it would seem that KTCK has made the transition to PPM without too much of a shock to the system.

We may find out any significant changes tomorrow at 8:30 AM. KTCK is promoting a, "major announcement regarding station programming."

Cumulus, CBS, and Clear Channel, and Citadel would all like all their employees to work for free and every client to pay $1m per spot. Welcome to America, if they could pay you less, they would. "Want To" and "Can Do" are too different things doughboy.

Dunham and Miller are a run-away #1 in M25-54, which means, aint a damn thing changing. Learn how to read the numbers.

Trust me, it's a lame duck stunt. There will be a gimiky promotion for some fancy give-a-way, or some such. It'll likely be one of those cases where you have to "listen for your cue to win" thing.

That would make sense to move The Ticket full time to 93.3/104.1 (with The Cowboys). That would knock the wind out of the fan --- hehehe I made a funny! If that were to happen would you leave The Ticket on AM? Sell 1310 or put some other kind of programming there?
