Yeah, how the heck can I forget those? The Geritty's
was a classic and no brainer at the same time. There is one
for Able Break service that I heard recently on WICK. I also
remember one for Schiff's Food service that was downright
deploreable. And how about "we've got the maina, in Pennsyvania,
we'll entertain ya, you've got a friend................"
Then, there's Pittston Lumber, "get it done", and Choice Futon
in Luzerne. (That jingle, Choice, along with the Grotto jingle circa 2000
was part of a Citadel sales effort where they actually had a guy
from out of town produce the jingle and we then attempted to sell
the commercials as a packaged deal).
And let's not forget the "Move Closer to Your World My Friend" from WNEP which is
currently available on WNEP tribute sites.

Not very old, but I always liked the Eynon Furniture Outlet jingle proclaiming that they were NOT in Eynon anymore....

It might not qualify as a "jingle" but how about those Roth Furniture going out of business spots voiced by Simon Roth himself? I believe that sale resulted in an ordinance being enacted which stopped those never ending going out of business sales in Lackawanna County that were quite common especially with furniture stores way back when.
And while we're on the subject, how about "brighten up your world---Steve Pronko Diamonds! Steve Pronko himself (God rest his soul) often called stations complaining about the spot being cut too quickly at the end, cutting off the tinkling bells.

Speaking of proprietors doing their own voice work...
Tom Carvel should've consulted with an ad rep instead of chain-smoking 4 packs of Camel non-filtered before doing the voiceovers for his ice cream cake ads. Seriously.
______________

...Fudgie, the whale cake...it's the same as Tubby the tie cake.

Franklin Federal--Yessirree.

I used to cringe at the Carvel commercials. I would see them on WPIX all the time. They looked great on TV, but when a Carvel opened locally (I think it's still in Hanover Twp.), I was very disappointed.

Shehadie Shehadie Shehadie Brothers in Throop Throop Throop (sorry for the misspelling)

There was some lumber company that had a Woody Woodpecker like voiceover, but the name escapes me now.
______________

Re: The Late Jim Ward...

What about the one and only Jim Ward and Kerlancheck Furniture.
Who could ever forget the Lincoln's birthday spot with the song "Old Man River" playing in the background....a true classic WARD production!
Do you think Jim ever knew how to time out a 60 second spot?
Those were the days my friends.

God rest his soul, and I understand Mr. Ward was a very nice man... but those commercials were really a listener turn off. We used to get complaints about the screaming from the listeners, and complaints from the staff because the spots always went 65 seconds, at least. He finally got the message when we started cutting the spots after :60. After all, you paid for :60, not :66.

Jim really started to pay attention to spot lengths when he put Rush Limbaugh on WARD along with some other syndicated talk. Overlong spots covered his own programming and his listeners could complain to him. That made THE difference for everyone. Buskskin Jim was a "one of a kind" personality.

FREE CHERRY PIES! Today only at JAY-kob KUR-lan-CHEEK furniture main street duryea.

Having worked for Jim for 10 years, I have to say, he was the absolute BEST. He was a mentor to me and I truly learned a lot from the man. I can still see that production room, with a wall full of "records" that was the production music library. And when I say "records" they weren't production music, they were left over disco and show tune albums from the days of WPTS. All WARD's spots were cut with background music from such classics as The Towering Inferno which made them all unique.

The one classic we had was a 3 minute cart that was used when the satellite went out or equipment malfunctioned. It was the theme from Hawaii 5-0 with Jim saying "We're experiencing techincal difficulties, pleeeeeaaaaaseeeee stand by" every 10 seconds.

It was always fun to go into the production room after Jim had left. He never erased the reel of tape he was using, so you would play it back and hear all the "bloopers". I actually stole some of them and used them on the air one time when Jim was on vacation.

I can't remember ANY of Jim's spots being :60. :70 was usually the norm and there were the occasional :90 thrown in there. But never was there one less than :60. When you would be running the board for a Yankees game or one of the syndicated talk shows you were never on time coming back from a local break.

It certainly was a fun and interesting place to work. Jim left us way to early, but I'll always be grateful for having the opportunity to learn from the best.

> I have been having password problems so I haven't been replying
or posting. But my interaction with Jim Ward has been over forty
years. My wife first encountered him as Buckskin Jim when she was
on his TV show. Then at the age of 10, I met him at the grand opening
of the Pomeroy's Department Store at the Midway Shopping Center in
Wyoming. My job was to pass out demo 45s to the folks coming through
the doors. Jim Ward, the late Johnny Margas and Dave Garrett did a
marathion broadcast for 6 hours. (Wonder what the remote price on that
was!!!!!)
Then, in 1993, I was hired by Jim along with Dave Stroud to sell the
WARM Home Shopping Network. Buzz Boback was the sales manager and it
turned out that Dave and I would be the last two sales reps he would
hire. What struck me about those days was the courage Jim exhibited in
fighting to save his life. He tried every method to get better. And even
when he was in pain, he'd be in that production room belting out those
Kurlancheeck spots. He cut them to about November of 1993. He passed away
on March 22nd, 1994.
During that time period, Buzz Boback was an incredible support to the station,
the staff, Mrs. Ward, and her family. Buzz was the GM, the Sales Manager,
the WARD family facilitator in personal and business matters as well as
dealing with his own family. And he visited Jim every afternoon at home or
when he was in the hospital. Buzz was also responsible for trading out a
cherry red BMW for Jim to drive the last few months of his life. This kind
of embarrassed Jim, saying it was "a rich man's car, too rich for the son of
a milkman". Thank goodness Buzz thought otherwise.
Jim's funeral was a local media gathering and a very sad event. But everyone
had a story to tell. And even to this day, there are still people telling
their Jim Ward stories.
I have one, (as a listener) that I will share in person. Because words in
print can't do it justice.
