More New Music on "KOOL" ang the Gator Deal

Guest
Am I hearing more new music being added into the KOOL playlist over at WKQL. It is sounding like they are going to take a apporoach to the 70's music but still keeping the 60's in the mix. The station is sounding better then it did about six months ago. I think the station will peak at its best sometime in the next year to year and half. Also by that time their will be more jocks then what their is now and hopefully Briggs will open up the KOOL CAFE again before that time.

Also Gator seems to be doing well and I know CC is feeling scared about this because they want to control the country music part of the market and seems their run of almost seven years is about to die. Rooster will be fliping formats by Christmas time to something like: Classic Rock, Jack FM, News-Talk or even Spanish. Lets see what happens

Forget Kool, Mburg. Let's talk about Gator!!! CC scared?
Do tell. Give us all the juicy details. This is a catfight
to the end, isn't it? We need something serious, like a
major shot fired from Renda. BTW, have they taken the
cardboard off the Gator sign yet? How often do you drive
by the station, etc? It would be nice to be a fly on the
wall.

Want to tell me off I see? It is showing in the listners that they have. Who cares if Renda has the logo still covered. Heck drive by the CC building and none of the stations logos are out their. The only way you know it was CC is by the CBS eye on the building. Now let the serious talk.

Nope want happen the have already blowen it

the Gator

what does Clear Channel have to be "scared" of? Need we remind you they've owned country in the Jacksonville market for years- they ARE the leader and the advantage always goes to the leader, the incumbent. New competitor, sure.

CC-Jax has never operated from the "running scared" mode and isn't likely to now, especially from a company that continues to step on it's own johnson repeatedly.

I'll have all you know that the sign in front of Renda has an enormous WEJZ logo, a smaller one for Kool, and not much room to squeeze two more. For what it's worth, the Froggy FM hit machine is still parked in the back.

I also caught Briggs Bickley riding in, and told him I wanted to hear some Al Jolson, Perry Como, and Bing Crosby...all of which he played back to back just after noon. (OK, scratch that. Sorry to excite everyone.)

My predictions on Mburg's proposed Rooster flips:

Classic Rock--Clear Channel already did it in the late 90's. Of your four suggestions, this is the most likely one. Between Rock and Eagle (and to a lesser extent, Kool), there's still lots of good music being ignored.

Jack--As many of us have read, Jack does not make as much of an impact in markets with strong classic hits and 80's stations. I could, however, see a "Mix" (hot AC) with a deep library make some money.

Talk--FM Talk would be a hard sell in these days of censorship. Aside from that, how many good national talk shows are out there that are not already cleared in Jacksonville? As for local talent, Andy and Greg are already taken.

Spanish--I've heard that Victor Cora and Junior Pomales are involved in Fiesta 92.5. They're in for a battle, but they have experience and passion. Now if CC started a Spanish station, that would be #5. Sorry, but that's just insane for our area. There's too many segments now.

MY CALL: I still believe that as long as Rooster does not become too much of a liability, CC will keep it around...especially if QIK remains strong.

If we hear Trane playing Holly Jolly Christmas a week before Thanksgiving, we'll all give props to the Mburgmeister. It ain't gonna happen though! Rooster will stay the course and run defense while 'QIK stays on the offense!

Remotes, free concerts at a "where do I park" loser location, and a Hit Machine with the old station name on it, ain't gonna bring down the Jax Country Empire!

As for the other part of Mburg's post, KOOL WHO? Brigs in the KOOL KAFE (I suppose you'd have to misspell Cafe too) would be like a Krystal fry cook hosting Emeril Live! That is if you compared him to Pat Garrett! If you compared him to Scott Walker, he'd be the heir apparent!

As you were Miss Gail and company, stay the course!

Worst-case scenario, they swap it with 93.3 or 97.9.... if they believe there's a bigger upside to either WPLA or WFKS having a better signal. The two Jacksonville-licensed CC class-Cs are both country.

But I doubt that will happen.

OK, I'll ask: what does the CBS eye have to do with CC?
M'burg, I appreciate that you listen, have strong opinions, and
obviously care about radio. That said, your listener status is painfully
clear in your posts: perhaps you should stick to listening here, too.

The fact that Clear Channel owns the CBS-TV affiliate in Jacksonville

Thanks CR for gettin' my back. Mburg, what is this about
telling you off? I was asking a legit question and figured
you'd know the info. Even Chris Romer, whose w/ CC in Nashville
has valid questions about this Renda/CC Gator fight. I don't
want to speak for a VIP like Chris, but maybe the massive
struggle for top Country station in J-ville is affecting CC
operations nationally, if not internationally. Whow! This could
be serious. If the cardboard is on the Renda sign still, it
could be a "sign" that CC rules. If not, we may have a catfight
beginning. So, Mburg, you have to give us specific details
of just how wild and crazy this fight is or is going to be.

Re: More New Music on "KOOL" and the Gator Deal

Tibbs,

Check out the Gator Country website at www.999gatorcountry.com and see the logo. The number of 99.9 were different then just two months ago. They are in the process of getting a new sign (hopefully). This may explain why the sign is covered up outside. Hey lets see what the ratings show tommorrow when the Summer P2 ratings are released. We could be in for a few suprises here in Jax. Here is what I will say

1. WGNE will over top WKQL in numbers but will give WROO a fight.
2. WQIK will still be a top 5 station look for WOKV to be number 1
3. WEJZ will hold strong at number 3 or 4.
4. WROO will tank in the ratings.
5. WJGL will be in the top ten but could slip a couple of slots
6. WPLA and WFKS will go up for sure
7. WAPE will hold top over WFKS
8. WFYV could drop or go up but I am flat about this one.

Lets see what happens

Re: Introducing the new and improved Mburg

It's the new Superjax Spell/Punctuation Check Service! Here is a free example of how any post can stand out, and even gain the respect of tibbs, Romer979 mustangrio and his wife sally. Free rate quotes at [email protected]

You will find the "before" version of this in the post directly above! Please disreguard, because this is what he meant!

> So you want to tell me off I see! You obviously haven't noticed the number of new listeners that they now have. The fact that Renda still has the logo
covered, pales in comparison to the information I am about to disclose. If you drive by the CC building (which I have done, but only once) you'll notice none of the station's logos are visable. The only way you know it is CC is by the CBS Eye on the building*****. Now let those of us who are truly serious discuss this further!

*****And Boomer's obscenely large pick up truck!

The Soup, the post fixer! E-mail me now, operators are standing by!
Oh by the way, Mburg was obviously not referring to today's trend about the Gator. The one month break out was a tanker! Just wait 'till next Trend!

Lets see it seems over 4,000 people find a place to park for Jesscia Andrews. 2 the hit machine sits in the pareking lot and will never be used again.
