More News About Less News On 106.7

Rumors are flying that 106.7 is adding network talk shows in the evening and in overnights starting on Monday; and that there have been layoffs.

Rodney Ho's blog basically confirms it and the change to Newsradio106.7. I wonder what the syndicated shows will be. I hope they go the non political route. Also the article does not mention weekends, but you know that it won't be news. Maybe all local and have someone from FOX5 take a shot at radio.

They need to come up with another name---unless the on air reporters are Bill McNeal and Catherine Duke!!! Sorry,
Newsradio one of my favorite TV shows.

Indeed talk added 7PM on due to the fact that their evening and overnight news staff personnel we're let go on Friday.

I remember when WYAY switched to all news about two years ago. So once again Atlanta is the only top ten market without an all news station. Actually Boston,Dallas and Houston's news stations do run talk shows at night, overnight and on the weekend. Usually, it takes several years to build an all news station. Cumulus gave it a year and a half before adding infomercials and Kim Peterson. How much longer can KROI in Houston hang on? Their ratings have been less than stellar.

How do you base how many years it takes to build an all-news station? Prior to Atlanta and Houston, what were the last all-newsers to debut?

CBS's KRLD Dallas TX which IIRC went mostly news (there are some paid programs) in 2005. They did a 2.5 ( 6+) in 8 + years verses 106.7's 1.7 (6+) in two years. When you look at that 106.7 did OK all thing considered. That is why I wished that CBS or COX would have done all news. They have the strength and resources to pull it off. Maybe someday Cox will get 95.5 moved to an in-town tower and then try all news on 750. They really can not split 750 AM and 95.5 right now with 95.5 weak signal south of the Airport.

I'd expect Savage Nation will be one of the first adds.

Sorry, Charlie.

We get stuck with John Batchelor from 11 PM to 1 AM, then just what we wanted, a trucking show -- Red Eye Radio.

Boy, Cumulus, you must really love us …

I have said this before: Cumulus has NO idea of how to program a news-talk station. Michael Savage would bring them HUGE ratings. So why haven't the "Wizards of Dickey" thought about this? They might as well go back to playing automated music. There are SO many talk shows they can import, but no one in Dickeyland understands how to do it right.

Cumulus ALSO syndicates Savage, so there must be a conflict in the area.

Either another station in the area carries it, or he has a clause in his contract that the show must air at a certain time. One or the other. Certainly, Bloomquist is familiar with the show, because he ran it at WGST.

Yep, there's a conflict - News. Savage airs live 3-6PM. To air him live, you would have to kill off the afternoon news block of NewsRadio (shouldn't be a problem at this point).

Another conflict - Savage currently airs live on the monster signal of WCFO/1160.
;-D

If they wanted to run Savage, they could easily delay him and air the show from 7-10PM on non-Braves nights. Maybe the show is under contract with the "monster signal" (haha) of WCFO, or Cumulus prefers to show Savage running in afternoon drive on the Westwood One affiliate list.
