More on CC stations in CNY on the block

So we've known that Utica is one of the markets being placed in a trust and to be disposed of by CC:

WADR-AM
WOKR-FM
WRNY-AM
WUMX-FM
WUTQ-AM
WOUR-FM

If this is old news forgive me, but I had not seen this station listed before:

WWDG-FM/Deruyter (Syracuse)

You wouldn't think CC would sell it to a competitor. Any bets on where it ends up?

I've looked on many places... and as much as Wikipedia can be "doubtful" I think it has the clearest explanation of what the Aloha Trust is all about.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_Station_Trust,_LLC#New_York

I think the station list on this page is far from complete, but the most important thing is at the top. It's being created to protect new owners -- whoever they may be -- from exceeding FCC ownership limits. In many markets, ClearChannel is over the limit, but they are OK because they were "grandfathered in" before the current requirements existed. But once you make a sale, that "grandfathering" doesn't pass along to the new owner.

Interestingly, I thought Utica was OK (after CC got rid of WUTR) and Syracuse wasn't even supposed to be up for sale... so I don't understand why either market's stations are being put into this trust. I've also heard WIVT-TV and/or WBGH-TV in Binghamton are being added to the trust! What's up with that?

One way or another, I think it's just a bunch of temporary on-paper maneuvering to satisfy the feds.

They are selling all their under performing stations. And all stations in markets smaller than 100. This has nothing to do with over the limit issues. I beleive they will sell power 106 also. No company will come into the Syracuse market for WWDG only. The signal is too poor. So they will combine it with power. And it will look like they were forced to sell the Urban station. They come out smelling good. They will be lucky to get 1 million for it.

Not entirely true. If you've read some of Tom Taylor's editorials/news lately, the thought is that by placing certain stations in a trust to eventually be sold, that the new CC might actually be able purchase better stations in the SAME markets. Brilliant!

I haven't read those, but very interesting theory. What would CC want to buy in Syracuse though? The ONLY station they could possibly be interested in is 93Q. I doubt Citadel would sell just one station, especially their leading station. In the latest 12+ numbers on R&R's website, 93Q is ranked second. You have to go through 4 more CC's and WSEN before you find the 2nd-ranked Citadel property.

By the way... that's based on the Fall '06 numbers. R&R's website says the next Syracuse ratings update is due May 8th. Umm... what gives? Lemme guess... did Ed Levine's switch to Eastlan screw the public out of seeing the numbers?

I don't know. Probably.

If you'll notice the older ratings, Galaxy's stations are now missing.

Yeah... I think that's it. This website now also has ratings (I never visit the homepage -- just come right here via a favorite -- so I never knew about this or Tom Taylor until you mentioned it.)
