They are broadcasting in the 10:00 AM hour this morning. Extremely fast talking too! I'll try to upload a sample, if anyone wants to hear it.

I don't wanna hear it. I wish I couldn't pick it up. They block out KNTU when they are on. Wish the FCC would come around and shut 'em down.

Sometimes I'll check them out and hear someone's in-car FM satellite translator. Some strange stuff. I play a game to see which car it's coming from.
 
Yes, it's annoying. I can't believe that the FCC hasn't shut them down yet. I work very close to the antenna, and my coworkers complain that it makes their wireless FM transmitters useless.
 
If this cat wants to get heard, they have interweb broadcasting for that, no need to pirate the airwaves, this guy isnt running radio caroline circa 1967 (check the wikipedia for that one)
 
OOoookkkayyy this is interesting. This morning around 7:30, I caught them broadcasting what sounds like a commercial. Most of it was in Spanish, however they said Time Warner Cable, twice. ???

I caught it on tape (well, as a .wav file actually).

according t he fcc, they shut those guys own last tuesday the 4th. i havent listened since then, but whoever youre hearing is another transmiter as that one is currently sitting on the fcc's desk.

does it sound like the same guys?
 
It's hard to tell for sure. On one listening instance, I heard this lady speaking at very high speed. She sounded angry to me. But alas I don't know Spanish.

Seriously, folks. I realize this isn't a deleted scene on "Pump Up the Volume," but what's it take for the FCC to get its thumb out of its collective butt and pull this plug. Oh, and yes, there were definite commercials on that dial, including one from "highly reputable, tapping the higher end of society" car dealer, Clay Cooley.

It's bad enough they are throttling the late night jazz on my alma mater, but to make money for it... um, Mr. Martin, would you please leave your ivory towers and visit the common folks in Denton?!

Oh and apparently I got the location wrong. This is the first one I've not called correctly :( The actual transmitter site was on the E side of 35. And this was the amp they're using: http://www.rvr.it/d/TEX1000_Light.pdf

I have to wonder if they are using more than one transmitter. I finally got around to hooking up another radio to the same antenna setup I was using for the first one. On the second radio, I can hear the audio, but the tuned indicator doesn't come on. I can hear them all the way down at 87.5 on the second radio.

I'm listening to it right now. I don't think it's the same pirate. It sounds like an announcer at Clay Cooley Dodge dealer had a wireless transmitter at that frequency because she says that they are in Duncanville accepting trade-ins. Literally, "Clay Cooley, Dodge Magnum for you, in red, no credit it's fine, we help you rebuild your credit, walk in and you can drive it right now!" There's also some street background noise.

The lady even says "Guess where we are? Here at the biggest dealer in Duncanville, Clay Cooley! You'll need a golf cart just to cross the lot here! Clay Cooley is part of your Latino family!" and on and on...

It's kind of funny to me because one of the things I heard this morning, aside from the Time Warner Cable spot, was when they broadcast a moment or so of some type of soft music, with bird chirping sound effects. At other times it feels like I am listening to a soap opera, in Spanish.

Very strange, whatever it is.

I have a question... I was reading that some people have gone as far as broadcasting Christmas music and greetings over AM or FM bands when people drive by their house to look at light displays. I am not sure how far the signal reaches but isn't that illegal? Also, there was a home for sale in my neighborhood and the FOR SALE sign instructed you to turn your radio to a certain frequency and the lady described the interior in detail. Is that considered to be a pirate?
 
I guess if the transmitter power is below a certain threshold (say 1 watt) and operating in unallocated frequencies, it's not considered a pirate.
 
As long as those types of transmitters meet FCC part 15 specs, they are legal. There are a few companies that manufacture part 15 transmitters for that specific purpose.
