Let's see, first CC kills the station and replaces it with mix back in 98 which to this day I'm still pissed off about, then moves the station to an unlistenable AM signal, then is placed on another unlistenable signal on FM only to be taken off for hip hop and other short lived formats. and now it's gone for good.

I say fight back and bring a pirate, hell put it on 101.5, I could care less if it messes with Q101.9. We need R&B in San ANtonio back and on FM. People are sick and tired of hip hop and other types of music that is NOT APPROPRITATE for families.

I love how people say CC "KILLED THE STATION"....dude, this is a biz, plain and simple. If there is no revenue nor an outlet for selling the station, it will NOT float. Plain and simple. Relax a bit on CC KILLED IT. ANY smart company would un-plug a non-revenue building station. Sometimes it costs more to keep a station going than the revenue it brings in...hence, pull the plug. Not to mention countless research studies and feedback from the community.

Its like saying... "THERE SHOULD BE A DANCE STATION IN SA..DUDE, IT WOULD WORK"...HELL NO IT WOULDNT. If it has no grounds of building revenue, sales wise...its not going to erect. I mean no disrespect, just tired of the low thought process behind statements like, "cc killed it", without looking at the entire picture.

If your THAT passionate about having an R&B FM in SA...get the loans, do the research, build a staff........or atleast, do a citywide petition and get the community involved. Show some passion in WRITING to get the r&b community heard.

What people seem to forget is that replacing KSJL with Mix 96.1 was a good move. Mix does better than KSJL ever did, even though it's doing nowhere near as well as it did when it first signed on. It debuted top-5, and KSJL never made it that high. It makes more money, and it fills a bigger need. While it's unfortunate that a group of passionate and loyal fans lost their station, the format change was an excellent business decision any way you slice it.

I will agree that KXXM has more broadband appeal, and the station is getting better ratings than KSJL did on the frequency. And, it would have regardless. But I think KSJL could have been programmed better. The music was all over the place. It didn't fit the market. I think it could have been programmed with more of an appeal to Hispanics and the African-American community. You kind of take what Jammin' 94.1 is doing and add more of the today's R&B. It's kind of what the old KTFM did, without the Dance and Hip-Hop. It might not have done well at the time, because KTFM was still going strong. However, I think it would work today. It might be something that Cox might want to try eventually on either 106.7 or 105.3, if the ratings at "Magic" keep going south.

I would agree with you that KSJL was very poorly programmed. It was definitely all over the road. There's also clearly a loyal but untapped audience for urban AC. That's clearly evidenced by the outcry over the loss of the format on AM. I'm not sure how large that audience is, but it's definitely loyal and vocal.

You're also right about how KSJL really didn't fit the market. It didn't do much to target Hispanics, and that's an audience you really want in San Antonio.
