"PBS Extends Partnership With 'MY MUSIC' Producer T.J. Lubinsky"

ARLINGTON, Va., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- PBS announced today that it has extended its 20-year relationship with veteran producer T.J. Lubinsky and has entered into an agreement to license nine new musical entertainment specials in a multi-year deal with TJL Productions, LLC, producer of the popular MY MUSIC series of programs seen nationally on PBS member stations.

"PBS viewers love and support the MY MUSIC programs presented by TJL Productions," said John F. Wilson, PBS Senior Vice President & Chief TV Programming Executive. "PBS has a commitment to provide wide-ranging perspectives on the arts and culture, and this series of specials celebrates many of popular music's most beloved genres."

Already scheduled for broadcast are MY MUSIC programs ARETHA FRANKLIN PRESENTS: SOUL REWIND (August 2010), JOHN SEBASTIAN PRESENTS: FOLK REWIND (December 2010), MY MUSIC: ROCK, POP AND DOO WOP (March 2011), and THE LAST DOO WOP SHOW ON EARTH (December 2012), featuring archival performances from the famed Dick Clark archives. Under the terms of the new agreement between PBS and TJL Productions, TJL productions will deliver nine additional titles to PBS over a three year period beyond those already announced.

"On the surface, our programs are about music, but like the best of PBS programs, they're about connecting viewers with something important, something truly meaningful in their lives," said T.J. Lubinsky, president of TJL Productions. "More than nostalgia, these programs are like musical time machines that take you back to special memories in your life through this great music and these classic performances. We couldn't think of a better home than PBS."

The multi-year agreement with PBS will enable TJL Productions to expand the breadth and scope of the programs it provides to PBS. "Working closely with PBS, we are developing an exciting line-up of programs with some very special artists and performers," said Lubinsky.

Many of the artists profiled in the MY MUSIC specials have expressed appreciation that the series preserves the legacy and history of music. "As artists, and as fans, we can count on both TJL and PBS to preserve, protect and present the great treasury that is our musical heritage," said Aretha Franklin.

The original bad girl of rock and roll, Ronnie Spector, added: "I take my pop culture and music very seriously, that is what I live for, and I knew T.J. would treat my work with the love and care it deserves, and help preserve my legacy. Thanks to T.J. Lubinsky for letting everyone know that rock and roll will never die."

Over the past decade, TJL musical performance programs have helped local PBS stations raise millions of dollars through on-air fundraising. Programs include, among others: 70S SOUL SUPERSTARS, MAGIC MOMENTS, GET DOWN TONIGHT: THE DISCO YEARS, MY GENERATION: THE 60S EXPERIENCE, FUNKY SOUL SUPERSTARS, MOTOWN: THE EARLY YEARS, MOMENTS TO REMEMBER, DOO WOP VOCAL GROUP GREATS, COUNTRY POP CLASSICS, MOTOWN MEMORIES, THE BRITISH BEAT, DOO WOP LOVE SONGS. Lubinsky is the creator/executive producer and director of the most successful PBS pledge show in history, DOO WOP 50, and many 50s and 60s Doo Wop, Classic R&B, Classic Soul and Folk Music programs and specials.

News #2 - Dick Clark / TJL deal official

From the desk of TJ:

TJL Ventures,LLC has entered into a multi-year deal to license and release many classic soul, R&B and doo wop performances over the next few years. The programs I'm producing will be making will be broadcast on public television and released on DVD by our new distributor Collectors Treasury Records.

Much of these (especially doo wop) performances are the rarest of the rare and features many classic R&B, vocal groups and soul musicians from the Dick Clark Productions archives. Many original groups whose members have long since passed on - - long before I was making shows for public television.

The upcoming special which features the first of some of these rare performances introduced by Ms. Franklin with her memories of the artists she loves, and many she also inspired. We've also entered license agreements to bring many never before broadcast (in the US) footage from the vaults of the world. All to be featured in the TJL series, and "My Music" - - over the next few years (exact release dates and titles are still tba).

This show, touches on Motown performers- - but it's really meant meant to be much broader across many labels and singers throughout the 1960s and 1970's Aretha Franklin presents: Soul Rewind will air nationwide throughout August and September on many public television stations (check local listings).

Much more details to follow in the weeks and months ahead. As you can imagine this has been a deal many many years in developing (and hard to keep to myself - I need to share the Dick Clark company has been amazing to work with in opening their vaults to us, exciting and enthusiastic, I thank their management and Mr. Clark for making this moment possible.

I can't wait for more shows - was at the last on in Pittsburgh and LOVED seeing Ronnie Spector performing.

Programming music of the 50's and 60's for a 55 plus audience what a novel idea......Doo-Wop 50 was the most successful, who would-a
thunk-it....Why couldn't radio do something like that and call it ,ummmmm, say maybe, "Oldies Format" ;). Lets see PBS depends (oops poor choice of words) on contributions from old folks and radio says old folks don't contribute..... Why Is PBS not afraid of Old Folks and Radio is....Oh well I was just sitting here on (THE DOCK OF THE BAY) Thinking about (SHERRY) in (THE STILL OF THE NIGHT) and just (WISHIN' AND HOPEING)

BYe, Bye Love

Sincerely :'(

THE BIg Bopper ::)

You are correct, but only in the sense of when PBS is doing their annual (or bi-annual or quarterly) drill for dollars and subscribers.

Say what you will about PBS, this outlet casts top notch musical and stage performances uncut by commercial breaks, i.e., Austin City Limits, Boston Pops, specials such as the 4th Of July celebration on the Mall in DC, on and on.

Currently I'm watching a fascinating weekly series entitled "Carrier", a twelve part look at daily events aboard a US Naval aircraft carrier, right down to the personal level of a basic seaman and up to the captain. Flight operations, mess, navigation, captain's mast - it's all included and worth watching. Thanks PBS.
