More power for EMF's 99.3 Columbus

I see the FCC approved on 3/25/13 a CP request to up from 1 watt to 43 watts.

http://cdbs.recnet.net:8080/fmq.php?facid=65506

It's also interesting to note that this translator is requesting to pick up an HD-x channel from 93.3 WODC Columbus according to what the FCC file says (It previously was getting it's signal off air from 90.1 WOHC).

Is Air1 on one of 93.3 WODC's sub-channels? (I don't have an HD radio to check)

or could .. (as EMF and CC have done in other markets... ) this become home to one of Clear Channel's HD channels after the power increase?

WODC only has one sub channel and that is carrying WTVN and had been for quite some time.

maybe this is WTVN's long awaited FM home.

I have predicted we will see WTVN on the FM dial by the end of this year or early next year.
That is a prediction I made after Bob Conners retired from WTVN sixteen months ago.
That we will see WTVN on FM two years after after BC's retirement from WTVN was my prediction.

That was one of my thoughts and CC would not have to kill off one of their FMs to do it.

43 watts isn't much but with 99.3's height on the Channel 6 tower it would get a pretty decent coverage over Franklin County and would help WTVN in the metro at night.

However, It's also still quite possible it will still broadcast Air1 (just via a HD-3 from WODC) once EMF builds this out (If Air1 eventually appears on 93.3 HD-3 we'll know that's what the translator will keep airing).

It doesn't look like CC wants to kill off one of their FMs to accommodate WTVN-FM at this point. So, this 99.3 translator is the only other way
for WTVN to get on FM. I think we will see WTVN on FM 99.3 but would not rule out Air1 continuing to be aired on 99.3 after this upgrade is
built and on the air.

CC has a pretty decent stable of FMs in this market.. I don't see them killing off anything at this point for WTVN-FM.. I know TVN will be on FM at some point (Look at them putting WLW on a peanut translator in Cinci at 94.5) but I don't see them giving up their limited signals in town to do so.

EMF and CC are buddies so my other idea of them using an HD-3 with Air1 to feed 99.3 is also quite possible -- I know even with WOHC's recent upgrade to 7kw the signal is still pretty distant and I know last summer EMF had issues with 90.1 going off air due to power failures at it's remote rural transmitter site in Ross county causing 99.3 to pick up the NPR station out of Zanesville... so feeding Air1 via WODC would help them here in Columbus provide a clean stable signal to the translator (which due to being above 91.9 must pick up EMF's programming off air and not via satellite).

I think things are changing once again at TVN.

Dave Maetzold was filling in for Joel this morning and mentioned that "Joel wasn't on vacation" but busy this week working on a big announcement to occur next Monday. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Maybe the big announcement occurring next Monday will be WTVN also being simulcast over on 99.3
FM in the near future.

It appears WTVN will not air on the 99.3 translator.
EMF has this to say about their plans for the translator on 99.3... Note, they may not even use
the HD channel off of WODC.

"At this point, our Signal Development team has not completely finalized our plans, but W257CU will be Air1 programming as fed by an HD sub-channel (HD2, HD3, or HD4) from one of a couple possible stations."

"Since HD sub-channels are not audible on a standard (analog) radio, an HD-ready (digital) radio is required to receive the signal - these sub-channels allow for several additional program feeds to be made available either to listeners with an HD-capable radio or via an analog FM translator such as our W257CU."

99.3 W257CU is now broadcasting 93.3 WODC HD-3 "Air 1" instead of 90.1 WOHC according to the top of hour ID.

93.3 added the HD-3 air one channel earlier this month

93.3 HD - 2 is still WTVN
