More problems with VHF DTV

I live within line of site of the Cedar Hill towers here in Tarrant county. I can even get our low powered channels (31,34 & 50) with a reading at over 70%. Low power ch 50 comes in at over 80% which suprised me.

However, no such luck on WFAA or now KTVT since they moved back to RF 11. No signal whatsoever. I've read that many others have this same prob. with VHF stations.

I live in an Apt so an outdoor ant. is not an option. Guess I'll have to do without WFAA and KTVT and KFWD. Wonder if their advertisers know of this problem.

Just venting, thanks for listening.

Is it possible that you have a UHF only antenna? One of my friends lives in southwest Missouri about 20 miles from a digital on VHF 10 operating at about 20 kw, and he couldn't get it right after it switched over in April. He found out his antenna was UHF only, and he's been able to get 10 just fine since he bought a VHF/UHF antenna.

At the very least, KTVT is aware of the problem as this video from the 17 June 2009 newscast shows:

As noted on another thread you can now get KTVT on channel 21.2. It's not high-definition but it's way better than nothing.

Also remember the FCC only guaranteed signal protection to those stations who elected to stay on their digital allocation. If they moved they had to conform their signal so that it wouldn't cause interference with co-channels or with other digital channels which stayed on that allocation.

This can cause issues because the station can no longer match the old signal due to this restriction. Digital stations can only be next to each other if their transmitters are at the same antenna farm (or otherwise close). So you have to check to see if the new DTV channel is capable of matching the old area or is it because they had to use a directional antenna or reduced signal strength

Here in Navarro County, the digital signal was coming in just fine until they switched the digital signal to VHF for 8, 11 & 52. Now they fade in and out with my attic antenna at home and do not come in at all at my office.

The FCC 800 number all it tells you to do is rescan and if you don't pick it up, learn to live without it. The folks at channel 8 seem to want to help, but know they have problems too.

Were you getting 8's digital signal before the transition? They were on VHF-9 prior to 10 days ago. I seem to remember seeing 52 (the new DT-9) was directional away from Navarro County.

I was getting Channel 8 in digital before the switch, but I did not have the fade out problem. They have been on VHF all along. At home I am not having the fade in and out problems with 11.

At the office with the inside antenna -- I was picking up 11 and 52, but not 8. Now I do not pick up any of the three. (although I did rescan and pick up channel 11 on 21.2 today -- thanks to a post from someone here)

In Lavaca county, I never was able to pick up Fox 19 when it was on UHF. Even on the new antenna they had up. Now with it on digital 11 I can pick it up at least 60% 30 miles from the transmitter. But if lightling strikes near it blocks it out some. I thought digital would not do that as bad?
