More Shuffling at the End

Months ago, after Lazlo was canned, The End advertised that they were looking for new talent for PM Drive. Harms was going to fill in until talent was found.

Additionally, they needed someone for middays. Well - they had Pam Wolf middays, then Johnny Windex, and then Harms moved to middays. PM Drive was hosted by someone named "Jeremy." He didn't say his name very often, but was serviceable.

I noticed that former traffic guy Pounder is now doing middays as of Monday, and Harms was back to PM Drive. I went on the website - no sign of Pam Wolf, Windex, or Jeremy. I guess they're all gone, and, with the economy in the toilet, the End has gone the low cost route of a Pounder -> Harms -> Jordin Silver lineup.

I guess its better than being totally automated, but I was hoping for some new, fresh, talent, to give the station a little push.

Whatever happened to DJ Dubya Noname? He was the best one in recent times, or not so recent. I never cared much for Harms, and I couldn't stand Adam Corolla. He was so full of himself, kinda the mid 2000's version of Steve Slayton.

Comparing Steve Slaton to Adam Corolla is like comparing the finest fillet mignon to a McDonald's cheeseburger.

Adam Corolla is NO match for Steve Slaton. Slaton would nuke Corolla ANYDAY on the talent level......

He left as one of many told not to let the door hit them on the way out by "I don't want any one working here who is more talented than me Lazlo."

If you seek out his myspace, it seems he's given up on radio for the time being, has returned to school, and is looking into television.

Personally - I think he was one of the most versatile and talented DJs on the air in Seattle in years. Certainly he's the best one developed here in town in the last decade. He'd done it all, weekend music guy, weekday evenings, PM Drive, AM Drive, middays, talk show host - every show he did on KNDD or KIRO was totally different, and all but one (I didn't like the "afternoon experiment" - some on this board think it was his best work) I loved.

I know Carolla does well for the End, but blowing up the Morning Alternative a few years ago, just as it was getting into its groove, man, that was the best program the End has put on the air in a decade. I still miss it.

Bring back Dick Rosetti once and for all! Clever, funny, concise and KNOWS his music.

Dick was one of many entertaining jocks that have graced the End's airwaves over the years. Bill Reid, Andy Savage with Steve & Jodi, Kim Monroe, Brian Beck just to name a few others. The station has been a disgrace over the past few years. I know companies are cutting cost and I am a firm believer that even these newbies that are on air deserve an opportunity. However that opportunity should be an overnight or weekend gig. There is absolutely no way these people deserve full-time slots in Market 14 when there are so many jocks out there on the beach with more talent in their left pinky. I am aware this is probably the only way the end can turn a profit so more power to them. But in the meantime they have ruined a once great radio station.

Ah, too kind.

I've been working on new songs, one is entitled 'chip needs to get bl**n'
i doubt if it could be played on the radio, but there you go!

cheers!

I miss Rosetti and No name. I think the end of the end was after the Marconi experiment and they decided they had to go all indy. The End of the 90's and early 2000's was fantastic radio imo.

The End will never recover to something greater than now til they end Carolla and Loveline, hit the classic alternative in the mix harder and commit to the right DJs in the right spots for years. They probably won't.

I agree with this analysis. Loveline has to go. Does anyone listen to that anymore? Its soooo 1999...

Carolla could stay - word on this board is he gets some decent ratings in the mornings.

I also agree with a previous post in this thread. The fact that a station in market #14 is taking kids off the street and putting them on weekday shifts is horrifying. Not that Pounder and Jordin Silver aren't doing good jobs (I actually rather like Jordin), but, hello, this is market #14.

Even in the poor economic situation, if a station in market #14 can't afford to hire experienced talent for the weekday shifts, we are in trouble. Dan posted last year that the industry's reliance on "profit margins" is killing it. Rather than being content with covering costs in a recession, they are focused on a certain level of profit that is probably unattainable. In order to attempt to meet their profit margin goals, they are cutting personalities back to the bone. But if the product isn't compelling - why listen? They'd be better off investing in the product.

Say what you will about Fisher, but since the loss of the Mariners, I've noticed an increase in spending on talent appearing on air. They've added reporters, editors, and anchors, trying to make their product more compelling and relevant. They must have realized that a bare-bones all-news station wasn't going to cut it.

KNDD is languishing in some low territory these days. Has been since they played the eerily prophetic "Sugar, We're Going Down" Fall Out Boy a few years back. Teenybopper tunes don't belong on KNDD and I still don't think they've ever recovered from that.

KNDD already promised some kind of "Alternative Declaration" in 2004, which read like a court probation order after a self-confessed plea bargain of sorts for them before the Fall Out Boy debacle.

1. Music- It's About The Music
2. We Listen To You- We will listen to our listeners and treat them with respect
3. Artist And Title Of Every Song- we will tell you the title and artist of every song we play
4. Support Local Music - We will support local bands music and shows
5. Never talk over the songs - We will respect the music, the artists and our listeners by never talking over the songs
6. New Music - We will seek out and support new music
7. Knowledgeable deejays - We are dedicated to constantly learning and living the music we choose for you
8. Musical Diversity - We believe in diversity and will be open minded about what music we can play
9. More than just hit singles - We will play any good song on the album, not just the "hit" single
10. Surprise you - We will surprise you with the songs you haven't heard in a while
11. More songs less often - We will play more songs and repeat them more often.

Then look what happened. I think it's going to be very difficult for alternative rock fans to believe them a second time.

KNDD just needs to simulcast their great sister station from Portland, KNRK. Don't start in about "Marconi" and the scandal... that station managed to save its butt and has been amazing ever since. I feel bad it keeps feeling the Portland ax since it gets low AQH ratings in the diary system - they've cut the producer for the morning show, several night DJ's, don't seem to use weekenders anymore. Regardless... it gives KINK a run for its money.

If I had KINK and KNRK at my fingertips, I'd almost never want Internet or satellite radio. They break artists I've yet to hear elsewhere in the USA... kind of like KEXP (is rumoured to do) and KNHC, here.

KNDD started the '90s alternative craze on the radio. I think it would be kinda sad if KNDD just followed around a kid "sister" like that

My only problem with KEXP is it's dependence on "core" artists (I don't know where else De La Soul or Kanye West ("!") gets airplay in such unusually HIGH rotation.) And while they still break new music (Fleet Foxes and their beards was the big one last year), they do tend to sound tired at times. KINK however does have a FAR better selection than KMTT. Their online feed sounds a bit overmodulated though....
