MORE SPORTS TALK CHANGES?

Just heard a rumor that Joe Bendel was going to FOX Sports 970.

It seems after trying the "Anti-Madden" in Stan Savran- FOX now wishes to compete with him with one person who wants to do that style of show and another who wishes to dress like the beast they are trying to slay.

If this rumor is true- would this not kill any hope of Craig Wolfley being brought on as a paid employee?

Additionally, am I not getting a "The More Things Change- The More They Stay the Same" feel from the recent sports talk shakeups?

FOX and ESPN did little but engineer a "Benz for Savran" swap and when WEAE went with a new show after the departure of Ellis Cannon- they went with Guy Junker and Eddy Crowe- already familiar faces.

It seems as if radio executives are so hesitant to hire someone out of the box they'd rather go with anti-personalities- Jeff Hawthorne-Gene Collier-Crowe- than someone with a fresh perspective.

Part of the success of Mark Madden and Ellis Cannon is they WERE fresh perspectives. So- for that matter- were Savran and Myron Cope when they came into the fold in the '70s. All different styles for sure- but unique at the time.

The only truly "new" face we've seen with all the moving around has been Ken Laird.

I mention this in large part because I'd like to see Rocco DeMaro's role expanded. Not seeing him get his just deserts is disapointing.

He's begun to grow on me and - for that matter- was the ONLY person saying the Steelers would make the playoffs when they were 7-5 last season.

Rocco's likeable- gets good guests (albeit from a Tony Kornheiser- "Media is to be interviewed- athletes are not" stand)- does bits- thinks out of the box- knows Pittsburgh- and can talk Pearl Jam if you need him to.

Why was he overlooked?
