More Sports Talk in Boston

If this new sports station poses a threat, which 890 and 1510 obviously didn't, 'EEI could improve their programming by screening the calls better. As far as I know the constitution does not guarantee your right to be a boring one-trick pony on the radio. Even casual listeners to 'EEI know what's coming next when Frank from Gloucester, Screechy from Quincy, Steve from Fall River, and a few others come on the line. They should just stop letting them on.

The Phoenix is reporting that Felger and Tanguay are going to be afternoon hosts. Is this true? I must admit I didn't miss Felger when he left the first time. Every statement he makes should be preceeded by the phrase, "Hey look at me!!" You just know that whatever the subject, he's going to take the unpopular position, not because he believes it, but because he wants to be noticed.

they think the 'regulars' are part of the attraction. And, while someone denied it to me, I still say the reason they get on is because they have an inside number.

as for wanting to be noticed... and this is different from any of the others, how?

The one thing I'll give them is at least they have a foundation of sports play-by-play and rights to the Pats I suppose 98.5 is a little stronger to the west than 104.1 (thanks to co-channel interference from WPHH), but within the market itself there's little difference.

Sorry to nit-pick, but WPHH was 2 sets of call signs ago. CC flipped Urban WPHH to Classic Alternative WURH in October 2007. John Fuller bought WURH from The CC Aloha trust and flipped it back to Modern Rock WMRQ in May 2009.

but because he wants to be noticed.
I think he can adjust the jerk factor to the situation at hand. From what I heard he plays "The Baseball Show" pretty straight.
But getting noticed even for the wrong reasons, is probably about to get Felger a nice gig.

We all know the REAL reason we hate Felger, don't we? It's because he took Fox 25 anchorbabe Sara Underwood off the table, that's why! Aren't we a bit green with envy or what? ;)

Oh, and I'd like to add that "Sports Hub" is an absolutely asinine name for a Boston radio station. Cliche tourist nicknames have no place in a radio station's branding, and I guarantee you that some ass in New York came up with that one.
Quite the contrary. I think it's a very good branding ... "The Hub" is more than just a cliche tourist nickname, as far as I know Boston has been referred to as The Hub for decades. Maybe if you're a college transplant from East Podunk, Nebraska you may not know that...

It'll be nice to hear Toucher and Rich w/out the same bad songs over and over and over.
So where will we turn now when we want to hear those Pearl Jam songs over and over again?

No problem, correction accepted and appreciated. I guess I had a mental block there. But you know who I meant. ;)

Wasn't one of the Boston UHF TV stations calling itself "the Hub" for a brief time as an independent? I believe they even had the WHUB call letters and all.

Yes! WHUB channel 66, licensed to Westborough, was a pretty darn good independent station for something like 10 months. It was subsequently purchased by Univision and is now a Telefutura affiliate.

The only thing I hope CBS does not do with WBZ-FM is to put Bob Lobel on the schedule...while he's knowledgeable about Boston sports, he's a horrible radio host!

Well then, does anyone know what Guy Maniella is up to these days? Or Barbara Borin?

I have a great way for BZ-FM and Toucher and Rich to score instant ratings. This way will sound very familiar to those who put up with WEEI over the years - and this way was why WEEI went from merely top 5 status to #1 in the mornings among mainstream ratings.

A typical T&R successful show should sound like this:

Toucher: An escaped gorilla is still loose in the city of Boston? How the hell do you lose a gorilla in a major city like this?
Rich: Well, Toucher, given that the zoo is on the Roxbury/Dorchester border, it's pretty GD easy!
Toucher: Yeah, it's getting as though you can't tell your escaped gorillas apart from your gangbangers on Blue Hill Ave.!

That, everyone, was how WEEI grabbed the #1 position from Howard Stern - and is the blueprint for WBZ-FM's future success! :)

Then they can go have a beer with the president and have every concievable news outlet discuss it ad nauseam.

WEEI got nothing to worry about.

WEEI has plenty to worry about. This time next year WEEI will be clinging to it's #1 spot. If CBS does this right, WBZ-FM will blow away WEEI.

I doubt it. Felger couldn't touch them before and I don't think the signal was the only reason. There's a reason he's called DB. His contrarian act gets old quickly. I can't see Tanguay bothering Dale and Holley. I've never heard Toucher and Rich, but aren't they already doing a morning show?

Who calls Felger a DB? The same idiots that call The Big Show all the time? T&R have been doing mornings for 6 months now, and only in the last two weeks have they been all talk instead of the awful same songs over and over again. With a hint of promotion T&R will take off. Dale and Holley will be tough for anyone to beat, they are the best sports talk show in the city right now.
