Yes, CNNRadio was owned by CNN/Turner/the company formerly known as AOL/Time Warner. Westwood paid the company big money for the CNNRadio newscasts, audio to CNN Headline News, audio for the Larry King Show and the rights for stations to use CNN-TV audio during crisis. As you can see, Headline News became HLN. Larry King is gone. And CNN just wasn't worth the money for Westwood One. Westwood significantly cut the compensation to Time Warner. CNNRadio cut staff, and newscasts went from 5 minutes of content to just 2 minutes each. They also cut much of the other programs provided. But they were still a radio network. Then, Dial Global purchased Westwood. Westwood owned the NBC Radio brand. Dial Global dumped payments to Time Warner for the CNN rights and gave all the affiliate stations NBC Radio in its place. CNN fired most of the CNNRadio staff, but kept the network afloat with podcasts and other audio for the website. This latest round of cuts eliminates all CNNRadio staff and drops all the podcasts and audio. I understand that some of the dozen or so staffers are applying for jobs in other areas of CNN.
As far as the original post, CNN cutting staff will in no way affect how many people WSB or AN 106.7 will hire.
