More swell oldies as heard on KFXM

Here's some more swell Oldies that you won't hear anywhere else, as heard on KFXM 2 weekends ago, some of these played back-to-back:

Green Acres Theme
Rock-A-Billy - Guy Mitchell
Flying Saucer - Buchanan & Goodman
Mr. Ed Theme
Glenwood Avenue - Pixies Three
Like I Love You - Edd Byrnes

What's odd is that you can hear a group of bad titles, and then a group of more-or-less hit Oldies back to back...Either KFXM has no music scheduling software, or they really need a lesson in using it properly..

It's an easy fix......... Sounds like, not enough distribution pools, maybe a couple. Create different Pools for each specific category( well known, lesser known, instrumentals,#1's, Doo-WOP, POP, Rock), maybe as many as 12 pools (or more, depending on how big the libray is ) for the scheduler to draw from, since most automation is on shuffle mode, you can dictate a uniform flow by category. Set your 24 hr clock to draw from each pool, create your logs , do a visual log check, and away you go, their library sounds very, very, creative, it's just a small fix away from being a great station.

Good suggestions, but it may make no diffeence in this case...

What makes me feel like they don't have a clue what they're doing with music rotation software (or aren't even using any) is that I've heard the same bad songs repeat in exactly the same order again (and I'm talking a dozen plus songs in a row) - they may repeat 8000 songs all in the same order for all I know, as I haven't listened long enough to find out how long the repetition goes on for.

That is the beauty of a dozen (or more) pools, there will never be the same exact order, because of the shuffle mode from each pool. Automated software can give you a read-out of exactly what the rotation time span of any given cut and what time of day it plays, if you are operating in increments on 2-3 hours on either side of 24 hrs, with say 4,000 cuts they will travel 3-4 hours on the clock for instance.

"My Guy" plays on monday at 11:00am it will repeat 4 days later at 2:00pm and 4days later at 6:00pm and so forth. Also on monday it was followed by Sugar Shack, 4days later by "help", 4 days later by "Tequila"

with 4,000 cuts which obviously includes deep cuts and rare cuts separated by Pool you guarantee a smooth mix such as the "My Guy" followed by "Barbara" a rare cut (Doo-wop song by Temptations-not motown group), 4 days later "My Guy" is followed by Bobby Vee "Walking with My Angel" a deep cut, four days later , "My Guy" Is followed by "Summer Place" a #1 song.

You can customize the order , frequency and mix, very easily. If they don't do that, then, yes, the order will be the same and will repeat at the same time. Commercial radio rotates approx. 250 cuts per day, internet Radio rotates 650 per day, satellite somewhere in-between.

Doesn't that just blow?

I head "Hang On Sloopy" two days in a row, roughly the same time in the a.m. drive, on a supposed "legendary" oldies station- KONO.

Granted, it was the great stereo vinyl version, but still, to hear it those two days I was in town means "regular" listeners likely heard it every day.

The "expert" on these boards will likely chime in and tell us this is all and good because "no one wants to hear songs they don't want to hear."

David E. knows this from extensive "research." The same research, of course, tells him what to think, what else to enjoy, purchase and eat, whom to marry, etc.

There are a few factors that would cause "Hang on Sloopy" to play at the same time, and it is inexcusable, because the atuomation software can tell you if it's playing at a 24 hr interval. the solution is you just beef up the pool number enough to track a couple of hrs on either side of the clock, and that problem would be solved.

The worst scenario is that they only have about 250 - 275 cuts and don't have shuffle mode, which I really doubt.
