More TV. Fox 56 News At 10

According To The Times Leader Online ... As Of January 1st WBRE is Taking Over The Fox 56 News At 10, Which Will Expand To 1 Hour.

The 11 PM Eyewitness News Team Will Handle The 10-PM Broadcast On WOLF-TV.

Wonder if this is a WNEP initiated thing, a WBRE thing, or a WOLF thing?

Is this WNEP culling the herd? S'long Paola?

Can't imagine WBRE got the ball rolling. What's in it for them?

And might have been WOLF but triggered by WNEP lettin' them know they were done?

Anybody?

Think it means extra pay for the WBRE gang who now will have an additional 60 minutes worth of work to do? I know their own 11 will be the 30 minute version of the WOLF 60 minute 10 o'clock deal but it's still an extra show.

Extra pay...

I crack myself up.

WBRE is my least favorite TV newscast, but I kind of am happy about this because WNEP's version at 10 was a joke. It was if they did it because they had to and didn't care. How many times is Paula going to stare at the wrong camera, followed by 20 seconds of dead air, followed by tons of miscues and engineering mistakes? WNEP obviously puts all their effort into the 11 o'clock news and has the college interns run the 10 o'clock news. So it "has" to get better with WBRE doing it.

I Don't Know If WBRE Made Mention Of The Change On Their Newscasts, But WNEP Played It As They Have Been Wanting To Move

The 10 O'Clock Broadcast To WNEP-2 For Some Time. Who Knows What The Actual Truth Of The Matter Is.

WBRE said they'd do it cheaper and for twice as long. Don't know if WNEP counted on that, decided on the move after they lost it, or what happened but it was about the money and the length of the show for WOLF.

The 10 pm news has been a gold mind for FOX 56, very solid ratings for a long time. I don't buy the WNEP line that they walked away to put the effort into a 10 pm cast on WNEP2.

I agree. That'd be like saying in the radio world "we're thrilled that we're offering a musical format on our HD side channel that the cross-town competition has on their main channel." Of course, at least a few more folks have HD TV's that can tune in the side channels than HD radios, but still, that's a loss for WNEP and WNEP trying to cover it that it's no big deal and what they wanted to have happen anyhow.

And I never saw the ratings for the 10 o'clock news, but I'm not arguing with you. I believe you that it had solid ratings, but to me that's amazing. Is it just me who thinks WNEP's 10 o'clock version really stunk? Tons of miscues. Dead air. Paula looking at the wrong camera. Like I said before, it's like 'NEP puts all their effort into the 11 o'clock and has the college interns run the 10 o'clock.

As far as TELLING THE TRUTH. Do you know of any TV or radio (at least here a radio mention) management who ever told the ....truth?

Paola is not out by any means. WNEP just hired Ryan as the fifth wx person, and Kim Supon just came back. However besides Paola, at least Sarah is pregnant and will be going out soon on maternity leave. Is Julie next???

Nextar (owner of WBRE) has finally had some luck with it's stock (was a great buy for years), and probably put in the lower bid for the newscast. WNEP just added a 4pm newscast. To me, their plate is full.

I see little downsizing at WNEP; if anything it amazed me at how it has added to it's newscasts. For sure WNEP plans to be the news station for many years to come. Add to that, it's staff is very well known, and loved.

For a broadcaster, WNEP has it made.

Same news at 10 that we saw at 5 and 6 and we'll see at 11... Turnpike tolls go up 3%.. it's cold outside.. yeah Penn State.. do we really need this many newscasts to repeat the same stories?

I think it looks good. It's nice to have an hour-long 10 p.m. newscast like the bigger cities. Yeah they're using lots of pre-packaged generic feature reports from FOX, but it's still nice to have on-air.

The better question, though, is if WNEP-2 will be able to put up an honest fight with WOLF with their new 10 p.m. newscast on Channel 16.2. Yeah, WNEP ordinarily is the big shot in the market, but there's still an awful lot of folks who can't get WNEP-2. I can't get it on my satellite TV and I'm too rural to pick up anything over-the-air. You gotta have cable or live pretty close to Scranton to get WNEP-2.

emo -- Yes, if you want to get the pierogi crowd who don't stay up to eleven.

I-78 -- 16.2's news venture is a sinking ship and all the giveaways won't help. The FOX/28 News at 10 is a good product; watch it if you turn in early, or view something else and get it at 11.

But They Are Using The WBRE Mic Flags.

I believe they do, and their are probably WBRE logos visible on the newscast elsewhere. I think what Roger means is that they are not shoving it down your throat that they are WBRE. It's there in some places, but in the background mostly. In WNEP's defense, however, it was mostly the same way when they ran it the last few years. The WOLF-TV and Fox logos were much more obvious than 16's.
