More WGN Changes - Now Steve And Johnnie Are Leaving

Mr. & Mrs. King will have a chance to say goodbye on Friday. Then Bill Leff will assume their time slot effective Monday, December 12.

Sounds to me, per this article in the Sun-Times, that it was either their choice or a mutual agreement.

From the article: "King and Putman say they are looking forward to 'closing out our broadcast career and moving on to new broadcast challenges, including a television show, completing book projects and learning to sleep nights.'"

Wow! I've been listening to them since their WIND days.

Will their final show be Thursday night/Friday morning or Friday night/Saturday morning?

I rarely catch them these days.... I'm usually sleeping.

Would anybody know the real story? Leaving on your own choice is very rare. That's what you call going out on top.

I NEED A JOB!! ILL TAKE THERE SHIFT!!

T.J.

They started the "Farewell Week" last night. They are either going on their own terms or just with a lot of class. Steve isn't exactly young, and I could see them retiring to their Florida home.

It sounds to me like they have TV and other projects in the works, so they will be ok. I live here in Arkansas and listend to them all the time. I wish them luck. With radio the way it is today, I am suprised they have lasted as long as they have. No disrepect to them, but nobody likes to pay for overnight talent. Bill is one salary instead of 2. Nick will be the next one out.

I hope I am too, trust me, I enjoy Nick as well, I am jsut saying, that ever since the morning shift change, it seems like they are changeing the whole line up. I hope Nick stays, I enjoy his show.

Damn! I just discovered this show recently! I listen driving from Middleborough, Ma. to Lincoln, R.I. each morning, unless QRM from WOR's hiss is too strong. Any word on what the replacement will be?

If you take what they have said on the radio at face value, do you think they are interested in finding another station to do the show? I get the idea they want to do something different. I heard them talking about doing some TV. I heard them talking about being upright and ambulatory in the daytime for awhile. And I heard them talking about keeping all their websites active. I suspect they may show us a whole new way for "audio personalities" to connect with their fan base/listener base that doesn't include or require a radio station as the conduit. What is Steve now? Age 65 or so? If you were him and if you could... wouldn't you be ready for a change in lifestyle... one that let YOU be the guy playing the guitar in a club somewhere.... while some other radio person comes in and drinks it in and talks about it on the radio?

I will miss them filtering through the fading and static down here in the south end of Appalachia... but I am hoping they teach us all some new tricks.

Replacing Coast to Coast with Steve & Jonnie great idea, plus better time slot; nobody plugged guitar legend Duane Eddy better than they did, and they truly enjoyed his style of playing.

I'd love to hear them on another station.
